  • It's far from invisible in most cases, we'll have to wait for their code release to know how visible it is. It effectively embeds the shape of another image into an existing image in an attempt to confuse the model. There have been quite a few attempts at this including one from the authors of the same paper. The typical trade off is image quality for protection/removal difficulty.

  • It was probably just to get all of the free development work the community has done. There are multiple engines designed around optimizing llama models specifically such as llama.cpp and exllama, and many other projects built around the architecture.

Facebook's research division also has a pretty consistent track record of releasing things to the public rather than letting their research models rot.

  • It's about a controvery with their former channel, funhaus. The one on the right playing the game, Adam Kovic, was fired for sexual harrasment a few years later. The one in the center, Bruce Greene left a little while before, supposedly over concerns about Adam. James Willems, the one who made the comment, is the only one left.

  • Depends on whether a voice is considered a copyrightable asset. If it is it would have transfered to the family when he died so they could give permission. If not CDPR legally wouldn't be required to get consent anyway. New regulation is probably going to be written to clarify issues like this.

  • Not even remotely. It requires custom firmware which often requires physical disassembly to install. From there you can install any distro, but you will continue to have many small issues and inconveniences often due to the nonstandard keyboard.

There was a Chromebook targeted Linux distro called eupnea that could be installed without custom firmware via depthboot, but it's dead now and the original repo got deleted after the Dev got hacked, so the build scripts don't work anymore.

  • There are 2 ways to do it, either via depthboot(software only, no custom firmware, lots of manual OS prep, 0 risk) or custom firmware(maybe physical, model dependant, no os prep, small risk). For custom firmware you usually have to either bridge an internal jumper, unplug the battery, or build a custom cable, depending on your model.

While it is allowed it's not supported by google.

I would never recommend buying a Chromebook with the intention of replacing the OS unless you're looking for a project or you're getting it for cheap.
