One of the things that has prevented me from finding a new apartment is my cat. Been on the market for ages, and 90% of listings are automatically off the table because they don’t allow pets. It’s an extremely common restriction. This would be a huge win. Obviously doesn’t solve any of the more important problems with landlords and excessive rates; but it’s definitely something that a lot of people would notice and benefit from.
She doesn’t say anything about the general election, but knowing that she’s a smart and pragmatic politician I would hope that she’ll still rally for Biden in the general. Her effort is to try to get Biden to change his messed up policy on Gaza, which is an admirable goal that I fully agree with. But if he doesn’t, and she still doesn’t get behind him against Trump, then this helps no one and ultimately makes everyone less safe, especially the communities she represents so well.
I finally upgraded my free account on Black Friday, couldn’t be happier. I so appreciate this kind of transparency and candor.
We are not billionaire subsidized, government subsidized, or even donation subsidized. Rather, we derive almost all of our revenues from selling services directly to users in a profitable way. Proton services are never going to be the cheapest, we’re not going to have flashy promotions, unlimited “lifetime” plans (unless it’s for charity), or offers that are too good to be true. Not just because it doesn’t suit us, but because it doesn’t suit the mission.
Instead, we will charge a fair price that reflects our costs and can deliver long-term stability.
They say it works without an internet connection, and if that’s true this could be pretty awesome. I’m always skeptical about interacting with chatbots that run in the cloud, but if I can put this behind a firewall so I know there’s no telemetry, I’m on board.
I think you're describing the hype, not the reality. It cost $59.99 at launch, I paid $23.99 last week. Very typical pricing these days. It is genuinely not Magic Call of Duty, I think that was just a hook the developers threw around so people had a frame of reference for a game that no one knew anything about. The only similarity is that it's first person.
The layoffs are shit, I wish that hadn't happened. Companies need to have a little grace and keep some damn employees on salary, the whole release and layoff cycle is completely ridiculous. But to be clear, that was EA's decision, a huge evil megacorp, not the creatives who made a really fun new game.
I’m deep into Immortals of Aveum. I don’t know what all the hate is about, I’m having an awesome time with it. The combat is tight and satisfying, the writing is sharp and witty, and the plot is refreshingly original.
It runs like shit on my high-end gaming PC, so that sucks, but it hasn’t detracted from the insanely fun gameplay and great story.
I’m really curious what he thinks about it. On the one hand, his female roles are a big part of his career, and he’s been a solid actor for years. On the other hand, I can totally empathize with just not wanting to see that name ever again.
It’s not the same thing, but we don’t go back and edit credits when actors change their names because of marriage or divorce, but that’s less about their identity as a person and more just that they got married, so not a great example.
Can any trans folks chime in with their thoughts on how to deal with retroactive credits? Doesn’t have to be just film and television, but anywhere that people are credited for their work. Super curious what people think the standard should be.
What the actual fuck? The army is putting on live torture shows for the public? I didn’t think there was anything left that could surprise me, but this is next level evil.
“The Israeli army brought a number of Israeli civilians into our detention centres while beating us and telling them, ‘These are Hamas terrorists who killed you and raped your women on 7 October,’” Omar Abu Mudallala, a Palestinian man who was held for 53 days in these centres, told Euro-Med. He added: “The Israeli civilians were filming us being beaten, abused, and tortured while making fun of us.”
Morally reprehensible. I don’t care who you are or what happened to you, if you unapologetically and purposefully retaliate against the most innocent and vulnerable, then you are the bad guy.
Two wrongs don’t make a right. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Stand for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Speak out before there’s no one left to speak. Never forget. Pick whichever goddamn platitude you want, but mean it.
An embarrassment of riches if you ask me. I think I’d go for Porter, since whoever wins could likely keep the seat for as long as they want. She’s the youngest, is absurdly sharp and quick-witted, and is willing to stand up to traditional bases of power. I love watching her question witnesses in the house—we need way more of that energy in the senate. Schiff is solid and oozes integrity, but he’s a bit too moderate and neolibby for my liking. Lee is frankly too old for me to consider her for such an important seat and doesn’t seem to have the fundraising chops to afford such an expensive race. I wish our elections were fully publicly funded, but unfortunately we don’t live in a fair society.
Regardless, I’d be happy if any of them win, and that’s an awesome situation to be in.
Bingo. Overturning Chevron would effectively neuter any regulatory agency’s power to regulate their area of expertise. And that’s particularly scary when we’re talking about agencies that rely on scientists to inform their rulemaking. The EPA is only one of many agencies that would basically become powerless overnight.
32degrees cotton terry joggers stand up really well, and are super comfy and affordable. I’ve been wearing them for years and they still look new. Don’t get the fleece or tech stretch joggers though, those are shitty quality for some reason and pill up immediately.
Can one take a stake in a company? Or do they buy a stake in a company by purchasing shares? Why can’t we just use the words that are meant for the thing we’re describing?
Taking a stake implies that they just yoink grab it and it’s theirs. Buying a stake means spending money to own a share. Maybe it’s a silly technicality, but words matter goddamnit.
Lol I got into a pretty heated argument with a group of friends, half of whom definitely remembered the movie and even started recounting some of the plot. The other half had no idea what the hell we were talking about.
Heh yup! That’s part of the effect, a whole generation potentially conflated Shaq’s movie with a movie that was never made. Scroll down the link I posted, they mention it. So bizarre.
