  • Yeah, I don't disagree with you there.

I could've gone deeper into the insurance systems with the different plans and so on, I could've discussed how hospitals are funded and how workforce is being recruited. I worry a lot about our system and how it will look like by the time I will actually need it.

Almost half our doctors will be retiring in the next 5 years.

  • Switzerland

Depends a bit on the plan you have. Generally I would call the clinic registered with my health insurance or fill in their online form to make an appointment. Depending on what it is you get an appointment within the week, but for more pressing issues it's usually on the same day.

If it's an emergency I can go to any hospital or clinic, but depending on my insurance I would be transfered after the acute symptoms are taken care of.

If for some reason I'm not anywhere close to my registered clinic, I have to call a 24/7 number to get a referral to a doctor nearby.

Prices are reasonable for the high level in Switzerland. Deductibles limits handle how much you have to pay out of pocket, so it rarely fucks you up.

The real issue is the ever increasing insurance premiums. They are not tied to your income level, but to where you live, your gender and age. Poorer people get support by the government, but that's just tax money flowing directly into private insurance companies.

  • Even European brands like Polestar belong to Chinese companies by a large share. But yes, German car manufacturers were asleep at the wheel and now they even lobby against the combustion engine ban because they would be left with near zero business.

  • I really don't get these people that write titles that are so short and badly formulated you gotta read it trice to get what they mean. Just write a longer but understandable title. This should be about mental load or maybe triggering a reaction and a click, but not utter confusion.

And yet I "engaged" with it, so I guess it was kinda successful.

  • Before that it was the 2008 financial crisis.

I wonder if Trump's tariff chaos is causing enough economic shrinkage to bring another year of slight slow down.

We really need to decouple economic activity from CO2 emissions or we're just left hoping for the global economy to be in peril.

  • I'm a tiny bit shorter than 5'7" and yes, rejected multiple times because of it, but they don't always tell you why, so some of it is speculation. I've dated taller women a few times as well, so it's not that bad. My wife now is a lot shorter though, but I don't think height played much a role for us. If I were much taller we may even be incompatible.

  • Switzerland - 20 days is the legal limit, but we get 30 with one week around Christmas + New Year's Eve being mandatory.

I also got a special perk where I work 90% but due to a limitation of our system where we enter PTO, every Friday I take off doesn't count against my PTO budget (rather than only every second Friday). I have not told anyone.

  • Classic Japanese. No dancing around or confusion about anti-semitism, just straight out asking the Israeli about recent war crimes.

Had the same as a Swiss guy living there: sure, everybody loves Roger Federer, but they also know about Nazi gold and the banking secret protecting dictatorships. And they just ask about it directly. Would never happen on Japanese topics though.

  • Isn't this just India posturing because of the Kashmir attack? The first threat about cutting off water was an empty one so now they are floating some military strike just to appear thst they care? I may eat my words here, but neither party is going to risk a full on war with an enemy with nukes over a place like Kashmir.

  • There should be a rule that you can't deport the legal guardian of a US citizen for that matter. All I'm saying is that they have an excuse for deporting them, even if it's a bad one. I don't understand the excuse for this case. Is there any?
