  • That's a very low bar.

The best pizza I've had is still a far cry from say French dishes, or Cajun (which has French and Carribean roots), or something Jamaican.

If I never had pizza again, that would be fine with me.

  • I only disagree with paying a premium for a burger at the other places.

It's a freakin burger, not a steak. $15+ for a burger is nuts (and I worked in restaurants at one time, so I understand the challenges for them, it's a tough business).

  • Pseudoephedrine

That exact med. Not the Sudafed with the useless phenylalanine nonsense that has been demonstrated to do fuck all. You may have to ask the pharmacist for it - it's not prescription but Feds made stores move it behind the counter. Ask for the generic, it's cheaper. Really works

Side effects suck though, dry mouth, maybe a little agitation. But it'll clear you right up.

  • There's always unknown consequences.

I keep having to go back to the French Revolution- eventually they were executing hundreds of people per day. I'm sure all of them were guilty and deserved Capital Punishment.

Even Robespierre was executed, and the whole thing blamed on him, though he was adamantly against these executions.

We'll never know what would've become of France if a different approach had been taken rather than just start lopping off heads.

  • Their lawyers wrote, reviewed, and approved the contract.

This is what most people, who've never worked for a large business, never seem to get.

As an employee I can never say anything about my company unless I want to be fired. For people farther up the chain who have responsibility for making public statements, everything is first vetted by the legal team.

Hell, at times we peons are given stock responses to give to certain questions.

  • Not "the same", more like "same enough" to have broad appeal - that is he understood what was immediately accessible in music, but it wasn't always the same thing. That's what was so brilliant about his music.

  • Go back to the 70's and 80', witness the insane popularity of songs by the Jacksons, and in particular how popular Michael's songs were.

He also did duets with other artists and I believe he had hand in songs that became popular with other artists.

That's all, really. The Jackson's had their finger on the pulse of pop. And I say this as someone who never listened to their music intentionally, even I was very aware of it (and will admit much of it had a strong appeal).

Edit: Pop is tricky to stay on top of. By definition, "popular" music has the broadest appeal, which also means it's less complex. The more complex music is, the smaller the group that can appreciate it. I like to use Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" as an example - I have musical training and still find it challenging to "grok".

So Michael and family had an unusual ability to change going forward, and keep their music engaging, while still having a broad appeal. Few musicians can do this, let alone to Michael's level.

  • Yes, it'll change things like the French Revolution did, where it kept going and going, executing more and more people who had less and less to do with it, finishing with Robespierre, who argued against executing people at all.

  • Do we know whether criminals do/don't wear gloves when loading?

What are the stats on casing fingerprints tying someone to a crime? Are they really that useful or are they a secondary piece of evidence (I genuinely don't know)?

Also, "criminals" is a large bucket. Are we talking about the average gang member out shooting his rivals probably with a stolen gun that may have been loaded by someone else, then ditched afterwards, or sold? (IIRC, gang shootings comprise something like 85%+ of all shootings).

Plus fingerprints don't lead you to a suspect, unless they've committed a crime before.

  • Isn't part of the definition that 2 cars counter-balance each other?

Typically elevators use their own counterweight, not other cars, as that would be less flexible for traffic. Since the counterweight can fit in the same shaft space beside the elevator (the shaft is designed with a little extra room for the weight), this eliminates needing another elevator car.

Most places I've been in with elevators have only one car/shaft - only very tall buildings have multiple elevators beside each other.
