  • Rent portal? You mean bank account with direct debit and/or electronic transfer. What is a rent portal? How can you possibly benefit from having a website just to act as a middle man to collect your personal info?

  • That I smoke all day, everyday. I don't. I read reports, I check environmental variable, I take readings from and make adjustments to tanks, I instruct people on how to prune and I sob over the new room of completely bare ones because nobody fucking listens to me.

  • It's common syntax in compsci, which I don't have an education in. Yeah, I understand that there are specialised characters. I guess I'm just not pedantic enough to search how to create them on my desktop keyboard, or copy them from a web search, when I can approximate them using simple symbols and people understand what they mean. That would be like me pointing out that "≠" is an equivalency notifier which means "Is not equal to" and not "not equals" and that "<>" is actually a comparison symbol in the compendium of mathematical figures and does not actually notate equivalencies. Which could lead to a broader discussion on meaningful differences in mathematical symbols, based on the context within which, glossaries of mathematical notation are viewed. But, any insecure dickhead can google something and insert themselves into an interaction with a sense of superiority without actually engaging in any good faith discussion. So, I probably won't. Have a nice day though!

  • But it isn't incongruent. Because Depardieu and Pierre were not honoured for, or, in-spite of their crimes. Their crimes were not public knowledge at the time of their inductions. Depardieu is probably going to be stripped from the Legion d'Honneur anyway, unless his appeal goes through. Pierre is dead, so cannot stand trial to be found guilty. Implying congruence supposes a direct knowledge, or tacet endorsement of those crimes.. So, it's not incongruent for Gisele to be inducted into Legion d'Honneur, because Depardieu and Pierre were not knowingly inducted for, or in-spite of their crimes. Which makes this irony, dressed up as an institutional failing, which it is not.

  • That's a lot of inference you're expecting people to make from : Legion d'Honneur has previously had inductees guilty of crimes that Gisele Pelicot testified against. Je ne sais pas, bro. I don't feel like anyone is calling for other highest honours in the land to be belittled, or that the list of previous recipients means anything in relation to the significance conveyed by those awards today. Just seems like "well akshually..." without any real point. Especially since Depardieu is awaiting an appeal for a crime, which if it fails, will have him stripped of his title and Pierre is dead. You cannot posthumously strip someone the title. So, it's much ado about nothing.

  • Road signs, like Stop signs, Yield signs. They all use lead as a primary ingredient, I think Chromium is the other metal they use. It's durable and the Matte-Metallic finish makes the sign easy to read in all lightings. You can still get lead as an additive to oil-based paints, but it's heavily restricted. You'd have to have a specific use case to import it, it's called flake white. Metal additives change the texture and reflective properties of the paint, lead is mostly swapped out for zinc and titanium now though.

  • You can't freely download and edit society. You can download and edit this piece of software here, because this is FOSS. You could download it now and change it, or improve it however you'd like. But, you can't, because you're just pretending to be concerned about issues that are made up. Or, if being generous from what I can read here, only you have encountered.

  • At best these browsers are going to have some efficient CPU implementation.

Means absolutely nothing in context to what I said, or any information contained in this article. Does not relate to anything I originally replied to.

Scrapers can send these challenges off to dedicated GPU farms or even FPGAs, which are an order of magnitude faster and more efficient.

Not what's happening here. Be Serious.

I would prefer if you would just engage with my arguments.

I did, your arguments are bad and you're being intellectually disingenuous.

    This is very condescending.

Yeah, that's the point. Very Astute

  • It is basically instantaneous on my 12 year old Keppler GPU Linux Box. It is substantially less impactful on the environment than AI tar pits and other deterrents. The Cryptography happening is something almost all browsers from the last 10 years can do natively that Scrapers have to be individually programmed to do. Making it several orders of magnitude beyond impractical for every single corporate bot to be repurposed for. Only to then be rendered moot, because it's an open-source project that someone will just update the cryptographic algorithm for. These posts contain links to articles, if you read them you might answer some of your own questions and have more to contribute to the conversation.

  • The Malacca Strait is used by most container and vehicle ships coming to Australia from Europe. It's the main route for shipping from the Indian Ocean trading with Asia. It carries about 80,000 ships a year. Once ships from Australia reach North Asia or pass through the Indonesian archipelago, they enter the busiest shipping lanes in the world. The ships carrying Australia’s bulk commodity exports are a significant presence: it’s estimated they account for 29% of global bulk shipping, however the 8 million containers handled each year at Australia’s ports are less than 1% of the global total. So, absolutely disastrous for Australian trade while leaving the rest of the world largely unaffected.

  • It's the red-pill movement. Everything since Gamergate. The endless videos of Jordan Peterson coinciding with Joe Rogan's tilt to propaganda. Andrew Tate, certified rapist, Sex Trafficker and disgraced MMA combatant. Pushing the idea of individualism and hyper-masculinity. In order to normalise misogyny in young men. Incels, 8Chan and influencers in that sphere have always been disproportionately shown to men, especially young men. It's part of Curtis Yarvin's "Dark Enlightenment.' Dude writes like a 15 year old on Myspace, but the tech billionaires worship him like a prophet. He directly takes credit for even naming the movement. It's all to spread disinformation and divide the public. Stop us meeting in public and having discussions, just look what Just Eat, Uber, Doordash and all those food apps have done to restaurants as a communal meeting place. Tech, or more precisely those that use tech to damage the social fabric. Want you anxious, alone antisocial and completely dependent on their "services" because they're all on your phone.

  • She's attempting to ban Geoengineering. From Wikipedia:

Geoengineering (also known as climate engineering or climate intervention) is the deliberate large-scale interventions in the Earth’s climate system intended to counteract human-caused climate change.[1] The term commonly encompasses two broad categories: large-scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and solar radiation modification (SRM). CDR involves techniques to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and is generally considered a form of climate change mitigation. SRM aims to reduce global warming by reflecting a small portion of sunlight (solar radiation) away from Earth and back into space. Although historically grouped together, these approaches differ substantially in mechanisms, timelines, and risk profiles, and are now typically discussed separately.[2]: 168 [3] Some other large-scale engineering proposals—such as interventions to slow the melting of polar and alpine ice—are also sometimes classified as forms of geoengineering.

Some types of geoengineering present political, social and ethical issues. One common objection is that focusing on these technologies could undermine efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Effective governance and international oversight are widely regarded as essential.

Major scientific organizations have examined the potential, risks, and governance needs of geoengineering, including the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,[4][5][6] the Royal Society,[7] the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO),[8] and the World Climate Research Programme.[1]

  • Newspaper created just before the invasion, no physical copy, only posting online. Only through English, consumed primarily through American Online platforms and now has a presence on the fediverse. Nah mate, I'm not an Orc, I'm just not blind.
