  • They were also using asbestos and knew it was causing respiratory issues.

They had cloths made of asbestos that they were cleaning by throwing them in a fire. However they knew that slaves in asbestos mine were getting sick because of it

  • Yes, having a purely non-profit foundation from the start would have been better.

But, for me, it is still a better option than Signal or Matrix for messaging.

Signal is great but they need 10s of millions every year of donations. It means that they rely on the generosity of wealthy individuals to keep going. I'm worried it is not sustainable.

Matrix is better on this aspect since everything is open source, but the UC is not great on my opinion and I don't fell comfortable switching to it for regular contract with family and friends. To be fair it's been a while I haven't used it so I downloaded Element but I am blocked on the account creation (the verification email is not arriving).

To compare I tried creating a new account with SimpleX and in less than a minute I was ready to chat. They rely on investors for now and don't have a clear business model which is worrying but they are developping fast this way and being fully open source anyone could fork it at any time. The UX is great despite being heavily focused on privacy and security and have features that no other app have, you don't need an email or phone to chat and if they ever start to enshitify someone can fork it.

Do pragmatically I think it is the best alternative right now and I am curious to see how they evolve.

  • SimpleX as a very user friendly interface, uses decentralized server, does not requires your phone number or email and the server is really easy to set up (but not needed, for the regular user it just looks like any other messaging app)

Edit: I forgot to say that their app AND servers are open source.

  • I've assembled a bed from Emma (German brand) that took me 3 days to assemble.

It was awful. It did not have instructions In it, just a QR code that redirect on a websitz with ALL the manuals. Then when you find your bed you have to naviagte between 10 different versions depending of the options you have, they all look similar but have different assembly.

Then when you finally assembled your first corner, you think it will be easy for the other 3 but no, they used a totally different assembly method for the next corner for no reason.

Instead of the 40 identical length dowel pins I had 50 pins in 3 different sizes, knowing that the longest don't fit in all holes so if you only use the shorts one at the end you are stuck with the long one you can't use.

    ....

This was pure garbage, IKEA on the other is so satisfying to assemble.

  • Yes, and make sure that the background in dark mode is really black.

On some apps you have "Dark mode" and "Amoled Dark". Make sure to pick the amoled dark.

For me it made a huge difference in battery life.

  • I lived for two years in Cameroon when I was a kid (around 4-5 years old), we were regularly spending time with another family who had kids and the same age.

Fast forward 15 years later, I'm 19 entering university in a totally new city in France. The first day every student is sitting in the amphitheater and they call the name of every student.

When they call the last name of the person close to me I recognize the name so I use it as an ice breaker to start a conversation saying that I knew a family with his name in Cameroon when I was a kid ... He says that yeah he lived in Cameroon as a kid at the same time as I did, so here we go we found each other again 15 years later !

  • From what I see the thrusters are faulty.

Boeing said the cause is a Teflon seal bulging, they cannot identify why and when it is bulging but they say it will not happen on the way down.

Also, all the previous flights of Starliner had thruster malfunctions or shutdowns and they "fixed it" without knowing the root cause of the issue.
