  • Having an excessive amount of kids.

Dystopic I know, but hear me out. I think this is already on the cusp of falling out of social norms as there are shows that let the American public gawk on the dynamics of very large families. Of course an "excessive" amount is vague and subjective but there is growing evidence on poorer outcomes for children who may have less nurturing and less family resources due to competition from having too many siblings. I myself come from a large family - so this is casual speculation from having witnessed the VERY different family dynamics from friends who came from single or two-child households.

  • Initially I liked the background on A and the lemmy on B....

....but I think C has my vote just for the sheer symbolism it projects - a confident lemmy ready to boldly venture into the future fediverse.

  • Yep saw that one and another with a deer eating a bird. So I think there's new categories for animals now too on what they eat. Instead of carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. There's obligate carnivores and opportunistic carnivores. Apparently even pandas would kill for some protein if given the opportunity.

Gonna be a 3-D food web once we get all the new science rules settled.

  • Great explanation of the concept of a food web. Grew up only knowing the food chain as well. Still kind of fuzzy on the rules for direction with certain animal pairs and whether it's based on predation capability or something else.

  • Hope your brother is doing better.

That's exactly the thing that frustrated me the most during the lockdowns. Lots of people trying to inject their FB doctoral studies into all their convos and any argument, however logical, won't work on the type of mindset that rejects scientific evidence.

Its infuriating to have to be the bigger person but I think thats the best way to go. I try to smile and make light of it when the crazy talk comes out. Maybe it helps a bit to allow people some room to change their minds if they can save face without an "I told you so crowd" waiting on them. Ive had some close coworkers who were covid-deniers come around when reality landed in their backyard and they had real people they loved and cared about affected.

  • Definitely agree, being respectful is the way to go especially if you have long wait til retirement or changing career fields. For some industries you will run into the same people over and over again. Try not to damage your reputation by forgetting that golden rule.

Also keep in mind that unless there's some large incentive, a lot of older folks do not necessarily want to be in charge and have added supervisory "babysitting" duties. They just want to do their jobs and not be fkd with.

  • Holy ffff...what did he look like before he got homeless?? Seriously though I could see him going down the Jeremy Meeks (photogenic prisoner turned runway model) path with this kind of exposure. He looks ridiculously healthy despite his living situation which probably can't be easy to maintain.

  • Wow - complete and utter insanity. I think I read an article on an art contest prize awarded to an AI-generated piece.

The ONLY upsides to this are:

    1. No more long waits for a new record to drop from your favorite "artist" - Taylor Swift still relevant in 50 years..etc, etc.
    2. Less revenue for TicketMaster because who tf is going to an AI concert?
  • I just saw the episode you're referring to - yes definitely got those vibes as well.

I'm surprised there's not much abuzz yet in the recording industry for artists voice use. That seems like it'd be much easier to do and exploit. Think there's already a lot of content using AI voice generation for parodying Obama, Trump, Biden, etc. This is going to get a lot bigger.
