  • I think Strange New Worlds is the best ST in a long long time. I really hope the strike doesn't derail what I see as a true return to the ST format. Discovery is more like a mini series run since it tends to focus on a singular topic for an entire season.

  • I think that's actually closer to the mark than many realize. Awards are great when they are not directed at the company or it's rep in a negative manner as they show positive engagement and help the company with sales marketing. When awards and upvote/downvote counters are used to highlight that the users are having a negative experience then it hurts the platform image. Similarly to how YouTube removed the downvote tracker because their marketing team realized it hurt their sales revenue with business partners.

  • I got super paranoid about clickers in The Last of Us and I really enjoy stealth gameplay so I maxed out shiv and used the bow a lot. Near the end I just went full Scarface once I realized all my enemies were just humans and everyone got a Molotov.

  • The issue is largely that these idiots are a mob and the casual US citizen keeps saying "It's all talk, nothing bad is going to happen, etc." When in reality this is exactly how fascism and nationalism began it's rise to power in Germany, Italy, etc. In the past the Constitution and legal system shutdown these agendas in the US. However, in the last 20-30 years the Republicans have done a lot to weaken and undermine the legal system and set in motion incremental phases that have slowly made this more acceptable to the average person.

In short money in politics through lobbying has allowed a lot of greasing of the wheels to undermine our govt and the average person doesn't want to be jobless/homeless so they say "not my problem" until it is too late.

  • I have 4 vehicles you know what all of them have in common regardless of the year? Apple Carplay/Android Auto and backup cameras.

If any manufacturer believes their shit maps and apps are better than Android or Apple they can fuck right off. I will hack or replace every system in my cars.

  • This is an interesting question. As prior military and a fan since childhood I can honestly say that I never paid much attention to it because the shows and movies put so little emphasis on how these people interact with each other through protocol unless it is a plot driven device.

  • I experimented by asking it to write a SQL query for a platform that has its entire database map available online. The data I asked for was impossible to get without exporting some of the data in those tables into temp tables using sub queries and then running comparative omissions analysis.

Instead of doing that it just made up fake tables and wrote a query that proclaimed the data was in these fake tables.

  • I visit it for a couple of subs that are not active on here. For the most part it feels the same. I never really cared for the karma system, gold, etc. So switching to Lemmy for me was more about just trying to find a place not being bombarded by ads, bots, and corporate policies.

I think reddit will survive the Exodus of users simply because Twitter is so badly managed that reddit may actually supplant it for a while. However, the drive to monetize all aspects of our lives is actually getting some push back from users so Lemmy may continue to grow in the next few years.

The biggest issues facing Lemmy isn't content though. It's ease of adoption.
