Woke with a migraine this morning. Popped a couple of tryptans which have kicked the migraine but I'm now left with the 'off' feeling (and hypersensitive nerves) of the tryptans. No hot coffee for me this morning...
Staff Christmas party tonight - I've got to put together a BBQ for 25 today (lamb, roast chickens, kumara rosti + the usual salads and sides), including desserts , drinks, gift bags for all, entertainment (set up my PA for music plus guitar/vocals). Going to be a busy day!
Oh man, Soju and Karaoke - takes me back to when I spent loads of time in Seoul for work... Oh, and Tornado shots too 😂 We used to joke that my boss had a body double - one who took the night shift, drinking everyone under the table and staying up till dawn, then he'd go to sleep and the real one would take over, there for the 8AM meeting, shirt pressed, shoes polished, sharp as anything. Those were the days...
How are you finding Picard? I'm a fan of the OG show, but in my time-poor world am always hesitant to pick up a new show! I blame Lost and GoT for that! Once bitten and all that...
Haha, there's some fantastic mountain biking, lots of amazing walks (day and multi-day), some good self-drive history tours (old coal and gold mines etc), horse treks, white water rafting, surf schools and more.
Over the rails maybe once every 2-3 years. There's a dual 1.2m diameter culvert there on the left (where that white water is) for what is usually a tiny stream. But sometimes they just can't cope.
Yes, it's a functional narrow gauge rail that we use to carry passengers to/from the caves and also just as a standalone tourist railway.
Santa Parade today in my small town. Sitting on the back of a truck with my trumpet playing Christmas songs with the brass band. Nice to see a good turn out :)
That's the path I ended up going down. Meant same time removing backgrounds etc in Photoshop but hopefully they come out well! Particularly pleased with this one - I found a hi res sketched floor plan of the Millennium Falcon. My 14 year old will lose his sh1t when he sees it!
I agree - to a point. Unstructured play/learning is great - for certain kinds of kids. My personal theory is that those kinds of kids will do 'well' in life, no matter what. They love to learn, and they learn by observing, doing, playing, tinkering, testing, breaking etc. I have one kid like that.
I also have another one who, given the chance, would gladly spend the whole day watching other people playing Minecraft on YouTube. But, break through his protests, and hold his hand to get him started on something, and he'll smash it out of the park. He'll whine the whole way, but man he blows me away with what he's capable of. Structured "traditional" learning works well for him, as it gives him the boundaries and targets he needs. But give him anything unstructured and he will goof off, every time.
