  • Sadly you mimic the small-minded willfully ignorant people who call themselves Christians too well. People like that really get on my nerves since it is painfully obvious that they don't know the Bible they claim to believe.

Isaiah 5:20 is always what comes to mind in scenarios like this (e.g. Trump calling accountability evil):

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

  • This will be handy for those couple of Windows-only applications I have that need an Internet connection and don't yet work under Wine. Gives me a bit more time to try to debug them and see if a fix is possible.

Something doesn't quite add up for me, though, with the "free" option of "Use Windows Backup to sync your settings to the cloud" or a $30 payment instead. Is Microsoft really that keen to get everyone's settings, or is this an error in the press release and what they really want is everyone to use Windows Backup to transfer all their files to Microsoft's cloud (OneDrive) in preparation for Windows 11?

  • Consigning Black people to live in filth is incompatible with serving all Americans with “dignity and respect,” unless Black people don’t count as Americans.

    (emphasis mine)

    Isn't that the whole point?

  • His attorney said that as of 28 March, the day after his arrest, his F-1 visa was still active. [Harsono’s lawyer] Gad said the government revoked it without any notice to him, and then claimed he had overstayed. The revocation was backdated to 23 March and allegedly based on his 2022 misdemeanor conviction for graffitiing a semi-truck trailer. Gad said that this is not a deportable offense under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The completely unethical (and hopefully illegal, but I'm not familiar enough with US immigration law) behaviour by the government here clearly has one purpose: intimidate immigrants to get them to leave voluntarily.

  • Dr. Edwards should lose his medical licence and be banned from working with children forever. How sociopathic do you have to be to be working whilst knowing you are carrying one of the most infectious diseases in existence? This is utterly inexcusable, especially since he is supposedly a qualified doctor and should be well aware of the danger he is putting his patients in.

  • There are also deshedder brushes/combs that will help - the idea is that it removes all the loose fur, particularly from the undercoat. Depending on the time of year this can get rid of a lot of volume.

  • I think you're overgeneralising here. Those are genuine, high-priority concerns, but there are plenty of people (both in the real world protesting and online) who are concerned with the activity of the US government, amongst other things.

  • Firstly, I'm not American, so I have an outsider's view of their impact on the world (albeit still a western one).

Secondly, I don't think you're going to get a clear yes/no answer to your questions. You've presented at least three different types of situation:

    1. Citizens of a country (Israel) having restricted travel rights in a second country (US) due to objections raised by the second country with regards to how the first country (Israel) is treating a third group (Palestinians).
    2. Wartime actions where a country (US) took action against an aggressor (Japan).
    3. The violation of sovereignty of another nation (Iraq or Afghanistan) by a larger military power (US) due to terrorist activity and/or highly questionable security concerns (e.g. the false claim of WMDs in Iraq).

Each of these has different complicating factors and a different answer depending on whether you are looking at whether it would be understandable for a country to implement restrictions, or whether it would justifiable (particularly by some moral standard).

I feel like this is trying to ask if people have a consistent set of ethics or if they preference their own nation higher than others.

  • To be honest, the explanation given in the screenshot makes sense. Whilst it's frustrating, if the mods have had past problems with arguments over OSes (and there are dedicated subs for them), I can somewhat understand the reason for the rule.

  • There's already talk-to-your-dog/cat products such as FluentPet. Probably the biggest issue with cats in particular is that their "vocabulary" is quite limited (usually less than a dozen distinct "meows"), but some of the FluentPet users (examples on Youtube such as BilliSpeaks) seem to suggest basic reasoning. A full-blown language is beyond them, but they do seem capable of understanding more concepts than we give them credit for.

  • The ultimate goal is to speak dolphin, if indeed there is such a language. The pursuit of this goal has led WDP to create a massive, meticulously labeled data set, which Google says is perfect for analysis with generative AI.

So they're aiming for a real-life version of SeaQuest DSV? Considering Season 1 was set in 2018-2019, we're 7 years behind schedule so far...

  • One can only conclude that either this is the latest step in a deliberate effort to sabotage the functioning of the US (and by extension much of the west), or just another monumentally stupid idea brought to life by their limitless incompetence.

  • On Monday, a federal judge in Vermont issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting DHS from deporting Mahdawi for now. The order also forbade ICE from removing him from Vermont.

Unfortunately this isn't going to stop the Trump administration.
