  • Yeah if I recall they specifically avoided connecting their grid to the rest of the US to avoid federal regulations, one effect of which is that the power companies can set whatever rates they want which is how the stories of Texans being charged thousands of dollars for electricity during catastrophic events like hurricanes come about.
