  • I really don't understand the massive ad spend from most companies. I'm a bit of a minimalist. I have like the Ron Swanson "people who buy things are suckers" mentality. I buy wood, material, tools and occasionally computer parts. Outside of shoes most of my clothes are 5+ years old and most of my shoes are too.

All that to say, I guess I'm an outlier. I haven't clocked on and bought anything from an ad that I can ever remember and I've been living a life very lacking in consumer disposable goods that they push for going on a decade ago this point.

I don't understand anyone who doesn't do extensive research and buy the best product in their price range on any purchase these days. If I do need to buy something I probably average an hour of research on any product I spent over $100 on and far more on anything over $1,000. Astroturfing YouTube reviews and forums would be more effective than ads on my purchase decisions. Which they do too, but they're normally pretty easy to spot.

  • I just like beer, don't really care about trends. I also live in the deep south. Like it's 110 somewhat regularly this time of year deep south. So a good 6-8 months of the year I'm not normally looking to drink anything dark and heavy. Most IPA is drinkable when I'm sweating my pits out in the summer.

  • I like IPA and there's like 3-4 very distinct sort of IPAs. There's a imperial IPA from a local craft around me that's almost caramel dark and people might not even call an IPA on a blind taste test.

But, I must agree it's kinda silly theres 2-3 IPAs in the craft section for every other type most places. I tend to buy the IPAs when I buy craft beer (outside of making a trip to the really big selection places) because the only other craft options are like "bland blonde #82 from probably owned by Budweiser brewery" or "ale that tastes like spoiled Newcastle". Sometimes they have dales pale ale in a few different labels for more money.

Craft beer has just become a shit show at retailers for me. No one carries any of the cans I like anymore. I have to go far out of my way to buy anything I actually want. Fortunately I live 15ish minutes from a downtown with a half dozen good breweries that have 10+ beers on tap year round. I'm not a bar/brewery person and I wish I could get cans to drink at home still though.

  • Ya, some things come to mind I'd normally call victim blaming but she basically invited people to fuck with her. If being assaulted in multiple ways didn't cross her mind she was living in a fantasy world. Groups of people are terrible, the larger the group the more terrible they are. One person will push a boundary and then another will take it further, so on and so forth until it's just.... Mob mentality is a real thing and it's not when you see the best of humanity.

  • Alright man, I hate Reagan more than about anyone I've ever discussed him with, but this is some inflammatory bullshit. There's a select few people you can realistically compare to Hitler, and they all ordered mass detainment/encampment/executions of people.

Reagan caused a ton of societal and economic damage. All of which could of easily been rolled back if the American people just voted that way. He didn't turn the country into a fascist dictatorship and declare things. He didn't act alone. Reagan was a horrible racist piece of shit, but he was just the face of the republican parties will. Not a genocidal maniac.

  • The free trade argument is based on the economic theory of comparative advantage. This just ends up being a measure of which market can be most effectively exploited for gain from every smaller nation a country like the US trades with.

These smaller countries end up producing a disproportionate amount of a small category of goods. Efficiency is good right? Well, it is until there's some form of economic disruption or downturn that suddenly lowers demand for that good. Then suddenly all the other things the country doesn't focus on are extremely expensive as the local currency devalues and they can't afford food and other core goods which they don't produce enough of. Hey, good news though, now their labor is even cheaper and we can have them work for pennies making something else so they don't starve.

Fair trade means the government doesn't interfere and tax things, it's the same thing as free trade. It's a really great system. For billionaires who own companies and would love to own slaves if they could. This is the next best thing though.

  • The crypto and buy GME spam from the groupthink "investment" subs was one of my biggest annoyances on Reddit. I used to love some of the investment subs, they got utterly ruined by the GME spam. Every other post is about trying to pump and dump some short squeeze stock.

The saddest part is so many of them don't even realize it's just a bunch of pump and dumps and hold the bag on stocks forever. There's still so many of them screaming about how GameStop or AMC is a good investment. Failing outdated business models, good investments because people short the stock. Sound logic.

  • Free trade was always just a shiny feel good label for allowing the ruling class of America to exploit cheap labor who have less protections in foreign countries to increase profit margins. But hey, we paid them a pittance to pollute their land and work 20 hours days. Fair trade.

  • One of the best Adam Sandler movies. His usual shit got old fast and it's one of the few actual well written movies with substance he's done. Funny people was decent too, mostly cuz he basically plays himself and is a sad clown douchebag in his personal life, which I don't know if is true but I bought it.
