This is my biggest fear tbh. I have friends I'd love to see in plenty of places, but leaving isn't the worry. Coming back is, especially being trans with a passport of my correct gender marker
Only to then be disappeared into Federal custody, have my updated birth certificate deemed illegitimate and shipped off to God knows where
Someone I know just keeps telling me he disagrees with every policy that's bad, while also saying he agrees with Trump for 50 things per the 5 he disagrees with.
Anyway that relationship is very sour as you can imagine
This read as downplaying Canada's significance for a moment, and then immediately circled back to the US being the isolationist Pariah state it is becoming
And yet we don't want our posts to be fed into AI slop, nor do we want independent hosts to pay for the massive amount of traffic generated by a massive corporate entity to trying to consume data en masse.
I remember NiCad batteries still being used in power wheels toys as a kid. For all I know they may still be, but the battery advancements have been particularly amazing.
The propaganda works though. People outside of the US struggle to see, and believe that the US has its own damning problems. 2 years ago I got close to a Romanian bartender while traveling. She told me about how she held scorn for her sister, who moved to the US despite having been warned against it.
What happened to her sister is what so many of us are victims of. Debt trapping, stalled wages, poor access to medical care and financial incentive to not seek care. Not to mention the poor quality food that wears you down.
As a result, she has had to send money to both her sister and Mom, and had to cancel several contract terms and vacation seasons off to care for her Mother. Her sister couldn't help due to being in debt, and at risk of losing her job if she were to travel, regardless of the emergency.
It's a cruel system that bundles up as an image of living free. The marginally higher standard of living has a lot of cracks, but they're hard to see until you're living with them.
I have had to help so many end users with that it pains me.
"How can I stop this from happening again?"
Well, we can disable.other audio devices, but seeing as it's Windows 11 they may just re-enable good luck!
I ran into a user who's noise cancellation stopped working upon the rollout of "New" Teams. Tried diagnosing the microphone array, settings updates, firmware. No luck.
Know what worked? Both versions of browser based Teams!!! Ihatethemihatethemihatethem
Genuinely. Proton expanding is a good thing in my eyes at least in this stage. They offer their services at a pretty hefty, but reasonable price compared to others, and don't have a free offering for certain things they run. Their incentive to operate is continuing what they were built on and getting better.
Is it how a lot of men just talk outright? Yeah, and it's insane. The messages my partner (cis) and I (trans) have gotten on Instagram even are so out of pocket.
I'll gladly accept the lack of understanding of boundaries, because it makes the red flags obvious from the start.
I'll add that it's very, very nice to see a rational, "respectful" reaction to being told they are trans though. Too many men who jump to invalidating gender and outright transphobia out there. Especially the ones who are only afraid of being seen as gay.
It's literally slur reclamation. The same way you'll find the f slur in queer spaces sometimes but not others. Referring to trans people as "transgenders" or even just referring to someone as "a trans" is actively used in an extremely hateful way frequently. If you're cis, it might be a good idea to just accept that people don't like to be referred to that way.
Trans people have literally been murdered as a direct, traceable result of her "free speech". Several more people have been victims of harassment campaigns. She has actively engaged in Holocaust denial.
It's only cryptic because it's something that requires nuance, and to be addressed on a case by case basis. It's safe to say that we have crossed the line and then some
