  • Ahh, okay. Yeah I imagine it’s a spider’s web of in-and- money-flow, macroeconomics at play.

So you’re saying it does balance with everything considered? And to remain a wealthy country our bottomline must be in the black when all added up?

  • Well, I don’t know. Let’s say a Bangladeshi guy earns $1,000 AUD and sends $500 home each week, then lives off the remainder.

He’s only contributing to the Australian economy $500 per week instead of the full $1,000 in bank-invested savings or other purchases. Meanwhile the other $500, minus an exchange rate, sits in another country’s bank or contributes to purchases there, fuelling that economy.

I mean, I’m guessing here. My economics knowledge is fairly limited.

  • I’m fairly sure if they took all the porn off the internet there would only be one website left and it would be called ‘Where Did All the Porn Go’.

  • This isn’t over by a long stretch, dude. There will be guerrilla shit going on for a long time. Mods who have returned are already half-assing their jobs, people are demanding pay, and the user base is fractured.

Plus, this isn’t the end of Reddit’s bullshit. They’ll keep pumping out more ads and making more unpopular changes. Name the last big company that ever said, “Okay, that’s enough money made. We can go back to good service and a reliable product now.”

  • Spez is out of touch.

He’s forgotten what internet users are.

We are an entire cultural shift away from rule following and shit giving, to a movement of non-compliant Boaty McBoat Faces who will happily bring the whole system down on top of ourselves.

  • I don’t get the migration issues, at all.

I’m literally an idiot and all I did was type ‘Lemmy World’ into Google, clicked the top result, created an account, and selected 50 or so communities to follow. Then I started posting.

I don’t know what the Fediverse is or other instances or how it all works (and I don’t really care).

This was dumb-shit easy to figure out - as easy as Facebook or Twitter or… Reddit.

    Source: am dumb shit.

  • It’s a running joke amongst us Aussies to visitors, man… Don’t ask what you can’t do in Australia, ask what you can. It’s an easier list to explain.

And they passed that bullshit encryption law over Christmas/NY 2018, by the way, when none of us were paying attention. We came back to work on January 2 and it was signed into law.

Personally, I thought it was our Government’s most sneaky and disgusting moment.

  • Question: in 2019 Australia passed an encryption law that requires every piece of software used in Australia to have a back door for law enforcement to access to ‘counter terrorism’, wank, wank.

Does Signal have back door access in Australia?

  • I haven’t been back. Creddit can get fucked. Apollo deserved better.

In saying that, I have missed the abundance of content. In saying that, Lemmy has grown in order of magnitudes since I got here a few weeks ago. And after the June 30 API cut, I think this place will jump in users.
