  • Thank you for your support. If you live outside the US/Canada, please urge your local politicians to open negotiations for expanded trade with Canada and Mexico to reduce all of our reliance on the USA until this horrible administration is gone.

  • I am so glad our government (Canada) hasn't immediately rolled over.

Say what you want about Trudeau, his speech tonight was pretty good and presented a strong response. Kudos to the speech-writers.

I'll live on local food (and cheap rice, beans from non-US sources) as much as possible for as long as it takes. Looking forward to seeking out "Made in Canada" labels while shopping in the months to come.

  • Am Canadian, I have wondered this as well -- could we ask the UK and rest of Commonwealth to help us out if things get too bad? I hope so.. but I don't think there is any obligation to come to our defense ala NATO if things get shooty.

  • That's OK, Canada has enough eggs on its own I think.

If not, I guess it's finally time to get a few chickens! We've been meaning to anyhow.

  • Perhaps. But as I understand it we have the most water of any nation in the world, so we should be more discriminating in what we let leave the border. Even if it's just a bargaining chip during this tariff war.

The US hasn't technically torn up any treaties, so we don't have to either, let's just "suspend" them. Seems they have no qualms doing so ...

  • Thanks for the clarification on Nestle!

But yeah... agreed, f them it would be wonderful it they got caught in the splash damage.

  • This also means Canada should be free of its water transit treaties. Let's divert water from flowing south over the border.

Kick Nestle completely out of the country, too -- no more cheap access to our water.

Start right now on new local beef processing faciliities.

  • Yet another example of how toxic religious extremism is.

There is too much talk of "freedom of religion" where we really need freedom from religion. Keep your beliefs, peaceful or not, private. No one has a right to enforce their beliefs on others.

  • No idea. However, it seemed to be working a few days ago, someone posted tweets there and one could view w/o hitting the main site.

  • Someone posted that there's a service 'xcancel' that lets one view a tweet w/o an account or logging in. Just add 'cancel' after the 'x', eg. https://xcancel.com/...

  • Whoa.

A company I worked for did this years ago... said they expected 10, maaaaybe 20% to take it. 54% did and they panicked, losing most of their best people.

This is gonna be a clusterf*ck of epic proportions.

  • "Here is the feedback you requested, blah blah blah blah ...

As you have contracted my expertise for improving your HR process, and we both acknowledge that my time is valuable, my invoice is attached below for (x) hours charged at (y/hr), payable upon receipt of this feedback. Failure to respond in a timely manner to the negative constitutes legally-binding agreement of payment. Payment in full is due within 30 business days."

Yeah I know it wouldn't stick, but might be fun to make them at least waste some time to respond or refute.

  • IMO it should be called the Chicxulub Gulf, since the most significant thing to happen there, objectively speaking, was the end of the Cretaceous.

  • So are any CDC staff working on ways to get word out on threats outside of the officially-gagged channels?

I would rather they don't lose their jobs by doing so, but civil disobedience is absolutely called for here.

  • This is the sort of resistance we need, no more 'decorum' to a fascist leader. He won't respect international norms so he deserves the benefit of none himself.

  • Small price to pay for standing up to fascism.

  • Are there any minor failures in your Tesla that you can claim warranty against? I wouldn't begrudge anyone stuck with one now who bought in the past, but a sort of civil disobedience, aimed at costing the company as much as possible, would be an ethical imperative here. Claim any warranty repair you can. Be a 'picky' customer. Make support and sales spend extra effort and money in any way possible for your property. After all, you paid for it, make them spend as much money as possible.
