  • I could see cryptobros and the "investing" subs spending a lot on this. They were already buying tons of awards to hype themselves up.

Any unironic circlejerk cult will by buying these and pinning them on each other's chest, same as the dumbass awards.

I think reddit knows their target audience pretty well; Rubes. That's why they let all the toxic "stock", crypto-scam and political extremist subs stay open until the media starts writing stories about them. Gullible idiots spend a lot of money trying to make their opinions look smart and popular.

This will make Reddit a lot of money in the short-term, but probably push more legitimate/casual users away as these "premium upvotes" will surely effect the algorithm and push more nonsense into people's feeds.

Now that i think about it, this will probably help advertisers and political groups astroturf all of reddit.

  • So just do what authority tells you to do with no justification, or else violence will be done to you?

In what world should people who are just playing music be subject to violence and arrest?

These are rhetorical questions. I'm not actually interested in your response.

  • It's been a day since the announcement, and a few hours since people noticed the stock dump. What the fuck do you want them to do? Fully research the case, send out subpoenas, call hearings, listen to testimony and level fines all in less than 24 hours?

  • If you don't like base building, you're opinion on NMS probably won't change. I still enjoy it and fire it up a couple times a year, but the gameplay loops haven't fundamentally changed and the survival elements are still pretty loose. I haven't played the most recent updates from this year yet though.

  • Having proper diagnoses for people help them get care and treatment. It's better than calling them all "stupid" and ignoring their struggles, which has been the case for decades.

Most of these "fancy new labels" you're hearing lately are just recognizing people, so they can be included in society and treated with dignity.

  • Same. I finally got into reading which I've been regretting not doing for years. I've read 5 scifi novels in the last few months and just dipped my toes into the Discworld series with Mort. I've gotten a lot of use out of my kid's library card lately.

Whenever i find myself doom scrolling lemmy like i would reddit, I've gotten in the habit of putting my phone down and reading a chapter of whatever is nearby.

  • He lost at the height of his popularity. Now he has loser stink, nevermind all the embarrassing criminal charges and him convincing his base their votes don't matter. On top, they blew through their campaign funds too early in the last election, and reports are his campaign's already going broke from him dipping in to fight court cases.

The public doesn't want him and the money doesn't want him. If he's the Republican nominee, I'd actually be fairly confident in a Dem win.

  • Cypher system has a similar mechanic. You have 3 basic stat pools, and apply "effort" from them to make your tasks easier (i.e. lower difficulty of skill checks). These pools are also your "HP" and are reduced by different types of damage. When a pool is emptied you are debilitated in some way, when all 3 are empty you die.

You can really feel your effectiveness lessen throughout an adventuring day, and it makes your life total more of a resource to manage.
