You're not wrong, though.
It can be easy to put up a front around other people, and hide parts of yourself. Tempting, even. If people don't know that information about you, they can't judge you on it.
Let's say two strong dudes were side by side, one of them acts "tough", and the other doesn't care about people knowing about his fascination with antique figurines. I would always think that the second guy is tougher.
I don't know what happened, but "tough" seems to only mean "following the buff crowd" to some people. "Tough" isn't just muscle strength. Nearly anyone can pretend that they're like someone else. It takes a certain kind of self confidence to let yourself be passionate about the things that you love and enjoy around others. It shows mental strength, which I think is a huge part of being "tough".
In the earlier hypothetical, the latter guy would probably be the one to stand up for what he feels is right, regardless of what he's told to think. He probably also wouldn't be as easily swayed by judgemental people, and would probably be less anxious and insecure as a result.
I'm not in the US haha.
I don't vote based on parties or teams. I vote for the changes that I want to see.
I'm sure that will make all of the plants and animals feels better..../s.
Personally, I don't even want to toe that line.
Not even close. Do you project this anger on complete strangers all the time?
I was referring to things like labor law changes. It's fine when it's someone else to a lot of people, but those people are silly to think that their jobs would be the one exclusion.
We can say that, but people also started smoking cigarettes (which arguably don't taste like candy) as minors. Should we ban all flavoured alcohol too? Alcohol is also addictive and unhealthy. This would mean no more beers, wines, coolers, etc, just watered down alcohol. Does that also sound like a good plan to you? Maybe banning flavours specifically isn't the only possible solution here.
It might also be good to try to make kids getting caught smoking more difficult for the parents to deal with than it is for them deal with an angry teen. I mean, these kids are getting these vapes from somewhere. Some kids are getting them from their own parents. Where did parental/social responsibility go? Kids shouldn't be able to get ANY nicotine in the first place, imo.
If anyone is basing their morals specifically just to go against their "rivals", I would seriously question that person's ethics, empathy, and reasoning skills. I'm absolutely serious about that. I would not trust that person in real life.
I would also have little sympathy for anyone who makes their own life worse just to get one in on their "rivals". You should always think how a new law might expand in 5-10 years, and not just focus on the current emotions.
If someone who you considered to be a truly terrible person got into power next, would you feel comfortable with those groundwork protections being seen as changeable? Would you be ok with that terrible person having that level of say over your life, knowing that they would get away with it?
If you hypothetically start messing with things like your country's ground-level human rights, it's likely to only be a matter of time until everyone is effected by it in unpleasant ways. Everyone thinks these changes will magically stop before it hits them, but I would strongly recommend for these people to brush up on history again. How has that gone in the past?
Politics shouldn't be some lame "gotcha" game because politics effect the real lives of many people. If anyone wants to do "gotcha" games, there are many places for those that won't possibly end with someone dead. That "someone" may be a stranger today, but it could be your child, spouse, or best friend next time.
I've been kind of wondering if that's that next paywall they have planned.
I mean, come on. They even locked an app icon behind a paywall. That's way less useful then the old reddit interface.
What part of the west are you from? Lol
In many places, it's still an ongoing battle.
sad Canadian noise
You know, I kind of agree. It's almost like they're trying to make people stop using it. They're copying things from other companies that are already known to cause backlash in a community.
Suddenly end all outside developer access after years of allowing it? Check.

I'm curious as to whether or not your theory about someone bribing managers from the inside is accurate. It could maybe be something political, or maybe someone is trying to innovate a new social media. It could also be someone who has no experience making these calls, or it could be someone just doing it for shits and giggles.
Part of me kind of wonders if this might be a scorned employee who worked their way up to the level of company decision-making. Spite and anger can cause a person to do and endure crazy things for a long time. Hypothetically, that person could be angry at Reddit, Spez, or another high-ranking person.
It could even be someone who has hated reddit for years. A lot of people have gone though hard times because of reddit. Situations like "We did it reddit!" come to mind, where people harassed the family of an innocent guy who was killed during the Boston bombings. That type of behaviour wasn't a one-off, either. Multiple people have lost their jobs and/or families (justified or not) after people tracked them down online and doxxed them.
If we're splitting hairs, why not wait to move in until you can fully buy half? Why move in together at all?
The cup. That was a whole thing that I completely forgot about lol
I meant that mainly in terms of the hurricaine season. During an el Nino, the Pacific ocean begins to heat more than it normally would during a la Nina. This heat creates an undraft of sorts that pushes a lot of air towards the east. These updrafts can kind of "axe" a developing storm. They can obliterate a small hurricaine or tropical depression.
When the Atlantic ocean is hotter, the storms that come from it tend to be stronger. We have never had sea temperatures this high, so it's a bit of a guessing game to whether or not those updrafts from the Pacific ocean will continue to "axe" storms coming in from the Atlantic. The gulf of Mexico is also pretty hot, and it lies on the other side of the jet streams that come from the Pacific updrafts.
We have to hope that a hurricaine doesn't make it beyond that jet stream, as those water temperatures are currently perfect for a bad hurricaine.
Unfortunately, we don't really have much data on these conditions yet, since we haven't really seen them happen before. We will have to wait and see which of the opposing forces is stronger.
If it helps to know, a lot of people around that age are also very aware of what's going on. Many of us are also mortified at the thought of what's to come in 20-50 years.
I think that every generation needs to get out and actually vote to if we want to have a chance at even reducing the damage. It should be more shocking to people that the effects of climate change continue to be worse than scientists predicted. What are we going to do if the 50-100 year climate prediction is also too optimistic?
I think that a lot of people might forget that they might still be around to feel the effects of all of this. I don't know about you, but I'm really not looking forwards to dealing with the intense weather when I'm old and frail. It's going to really suck for other at-risk groups, too.
Another side of the environmental concerns is being forgotten too often, imo. What are we going to do with all of these forever chemicals? The great lakes have recommended safe intake limits for fish caught there. There is mercury, PCBS, PFAS, and lots of other nasty stuff in our soil and water. There was a large amount of time where the industrial sector was practically unregulated, so a lot of things were dumped in bad places. If these things are known to cause severe health issues and reproductive problems in humans, they're probably going to mess up animals too. We should also think about all of the disposal sites that may not have been discovered yet. I hope they are testing for that more now. My grandfather's house was unknowingly built on land that was severely contaminated with TCE. They know now, but people lived there for years without a clue!
Scary times.
You mean the same water that's so contaminated with forever chemicals that multiple governments set recommended limits for safe fish consumption?
Hahaha....we're fucked.
For those interested:
"A new study has found that consuming a single fish from the Great Lakes is equal to drinking a month's worth of water contaminated with high levels of "forever chemicals."
(The recommended amount of some species of fish is now 0 in lake Michigan.)

No fucking kidding, eh?
I hope that the wind shear from the el Nino holds up for the people in the US and parts of Canada. It seems like the NOAA are thinking that this el Nino might not be as much of a saving grace as usual. The current temperatures are worse than they were at the peak of any other hurricaine season, and this one is still just getting started. I'm concerned with how bad the temperatures will be at the peak.
From what I read, we haven't really experienced this before. This year's sea temperatures are the hottest on record. We're already getting to the point where things will become increasingly difficult to predict.
Nah it's not something to really wish for. Over time, you start to feel all those forgotten meals physically. Yes, you may look skinny, but you're much more likely to be missing out on important nutrients.
Hello, headaches and more!
You raise a good point. None of us have had a perfect childhood, nor is it possible to be both perfect and human. Every person is different, and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.
I think that more people need to be kinder to everyone. You never know what someone has gone through, or what they are going through. Almost everyone is struggling is one way or another. We are all human.
It would be bloody fantastic if the bad stigmas stopped from both sides. Working together on this stuff is the only way to make it easier for us all.
While responding to another person with a similar problem, I saw someone suggest that another person's VPN might have been using the banned IP Adress.
My girlfriend also had the same problem right before reddit pulled the recent app shenanigans. All of her appeals were immediately banned, despite the fact that she only really lurked. Out of the two of us, we figured that my account would have been the one to go, because I actually commented and posted things. Nope.
