  • Russians didn't cut off natural gas supplies, or refused to pay for the commodity. The EU sanctioned themselves. What's next? Blame the bombing of NORD-stream pipeline 2 on the Russian invasion? Don't even discuss legality. Ukraine was legally bound to neutrality by the treaty for their independence. Western news media won't tell you that. Towing the line of "feel-good" propaganda are we? Take responsibility for once.

  • The US doesn't control the supply chains. Biden subsidizes EVs as well. US labor is too expensive and the resale value of EVs are very poor. If there is a country that can make EVs cheap enough, it is China. The EU and US stand no chance. Even with safety standards and 27% tariffs, Chinese cars are still cheaper, and the quality is good. US currency is artificially too high. US traded in their manufacturing for financialization. This is a case where Joe Biden can't beat the global market, with the rest of the world buying China. American EVs are a flop.

  • Culture is identity. Isn't that obvious from looking at different people all over the world? It is true, there is a clash of cultures because everyone is proud of their identity. Nationalism is extremely powerful because it is human instinct to look upon kinship. Humans are social animals.

  • The Germans have a guaranteed welfare system for migrants. That is one major reason they are the preferred destination, and able-bodied people who go to another country just for welfare, are not good people, which coincidentally linked to increased crime. It seems to me, white folks try hard to convince people they are not racist. Then they live safely in their gated communities.

  • Argentinian culture is leftist, which is why inflation is a persistent problem and economic decline is a daily, annual news cycle for them. It is not surprising that governors of states don't obey the central government regarding things like subsidies, because they don't follow rules in the first place. Democracy does not work for Argentina.

  • Well, isn't that counterintuitive; if we make bats extinct, that means no more coronavirus, if we exterminate mosquitos, no more malaria, if we exterminate the Tsetse fly, no more spread of parasite, if you exterminate birds, no more bird flu. You don't want rats or cockroaches living in your house, you kill them. I think they study is absurd. Urbanization reduces disease because there is less biodiversity. Just another study among many.

  • Does it really matter if he really is against it or not? Is he supposed to get a point for displaying some kind of compassion; compassion points, yet the Gazans are still bombed, starved, and utilities are out.

  • French and Portuguese, don't consider themselves Latino. You are wrong because you don't read the dictionary. I actually read.

Adjective: Hispanic, relating to Spain or to Spanish-speaking countries, especially those of Latin America. Relating to Spanish-speaking people or their culture, especially in the US. "The New York Hispanic community" noun: Hispanic; plural noun: Hispanics a Spanish-speaking person living in the US, especially one of Latin American descent.

  • That is illogical to claim that NATO is keeping Russia at bay, then claiming that they are a threat. If Russia was a threat, then the majority of NATO did spend according to the threat level. The US is far more fascist than Russia. Explain the difference between Russia and US, and what makes one fascist compared to the other.

  • There are Westerners who live in China, and none of them think China is evil. In fact, I know somehow who lives in China and had positive things to say about China. The US is far more criminal than China such as supporting genocide in Gaza which makes no strategic sense to be part of a campaign as support to bomb civilians. US has no moral standing to object to anything it claims is wrong. A sovereign country that is not entangled in alliances and operates on its own interests, what country looks like that? China is an example. The US is scared of China because they are becoming big and powerful. It creates anxiety and paranoia. Russia was never a threat after the fall of the USSR. A threat does not retreat backwards without a single shot fired. The US was taking advantage of the opportunity to expand NATO against Russia, when it was made well known, that it does not find that acceptable.

  • You must have been living under a rock. The US prevented expansion of communist countries. Same thing. The US is not going to let a superpower rise peacefully. Look how American government antagonizes China. You think America will accept the rise of a superpower in South America? You are naive. NATO does not follow international laws. Ukraine is by law suppose to be neutral as a condition as a sovereign country, and no Crimea does not belong to Ukraine. Ukraine stolen it. You are very one-sided. It is not the choice of Ukraine, just abandon treaties, except Westerners think it is okay. Well, two can play that game. Doesn't matter what you "think is moral", the fact is, Ukraine is getting wrecked, and they have no manpower to continue on fighting. Ukraine does not know how to run a military. They should not have been armed and aligning with NATO and the EU when it wasn't supposed to. Their economy cannot sustain a war, which is why NATO countries are supplying it. I have facts on my side.

  • I love it how motherjones insinuates the dreaded right wing is an evil cult.

    • Latino is not a race. They are Spanish speakers, foremost.
    • The author of the article presumably thinks that Latinos should want open borders, because they are the same race, or something of that nature.
    • The author assumes that American Latinos should be proud of a country they were not born in, don't live in, and perhaps no family in.
    • Latinos, Hispanics, Latinx, whatever liberals decide to call them, are not necessarily foreign to the soil of the US. Latinos been in the US since before the US expansion toward the West. They existed inside Texas when it was a republic. The Hispanos, that is what they call themselves of the American Southwest, are not Mexican, they have been around during the days of Spaniards. Do you really expect them to identify with a country for which they have no ancestral ties to? Furthermore, Mexican isn't a race. Mexico is a country where you have Mexican Jews, Mexican sub-Saharan Africans, Asian-Mexicans., and Amerindians.
    • Some points the author gets mostly right: Yes, an invisible caste system does exist in a lot of Latin America, but not ALL of Latin America. Cubans and Dominicans are racially integrated while at the same time Dominicans are nationalist, and even pan-latin. You can't blame the continued existence of a caste system on white folks. You can't blame racial-ethnic tensions in South America between the Amerindians and mestizos on white folks, either. There are no white folks teaching Bolivians to be prejudice against each other.
    • Hispanics may not like a country like Mexico, not because they're racist; they genuinely think the country sucks. That is rational. There is good nationalism and there is bad nationalism. Good nationalism seeks to improve the quality of the nation in economic well-being, or happiness, and security, through achievement. Bad nationalism is tribalism, and you will find a lot of that in Latin America as well. That is irrational because you imagine some special quality of being a national, but you can't quite figure out what. It is an issue of substance.
    • What about the politics of Latinos? They do they like the US because it is a country of laws, or do you expect them to look onto a lawless country more favorably? Migrants vote with their feet.

What motherjones wants is to imagine is ourselves as communist, where we ignore our differences and assume we are all equal or the same. Motherjones wants you to think simply of right wing latinos as being influenced by the Ku Klux Klan. They miss the mark so often, I don't read them. Of course, it is about race, that is what motherjones is about.
