  • As someone that likes booze a little to much, drinking helps me fall asleep easily but I personally feel much more tired when I drink. Outside of actually being able to fall asleep fast (fuck insomnia) the quality of my sleep is much worse.

  • Intel's been pretty good about VRAM tbh, having a 16GB A770 for a decent price is hopefully a good sign. It's one of the few ways both Intel and AMD can compete with Nvidia since they're infamously stingy with VRAM to encourage buying higher tier cards.

  • All I got is a dagger at best, take it or leave it.

  • I've been vaping for 7 years and I've literally never heard a single person IRL or on the internet call it "vape oil". It's vape juice.

  • Great question!

No, the Sun's diameter will expand greatly but it's mass will remain mostly the same, if anything it'll be ejecting significant amounts of stellar matter when it turns into a red giant and will be losing mass.

Mass is what dictates the gravity of a given object. If you replaced the sun with a black hole of the exact same mass, everything in the solar system would retain its exact same orbit outside of those few unfortunate objects that were very close to the sun (much closer than Mercury) when it got swapped out for a black hole of the same mass.

So even though the Sun will eventually swell up into a red giant and eat most, if not all of the inner planets, it's gravity will remain the same despite its massively increased diameter, and its gravity will get weaker as the red giant ejects stellar matter over its relatively quick life. Eventually it'll eject its outer layers, creating a new nebula thanks to the star ejecting all of its outer layers and leaving behind the dead core of a star called a white dwarf. These dead stars are often similar in size to the Earth but typically have a mass close to that of our sun.

  • Hey I like your username buddy it's pretty cool

  • To add to this, the sun will expand into a red giant in approximately 5 billion years, which is likely to consume both Earth and the Moon. This will happen before the Moon is able to leave Earth's orbit, so it'll shrink in the sky but odds are it won't leave the Earth's orbit before both are destroyed by the expanding sun in the future.

On top of that, the sun is slowly getting hotter as it gets older, so in approximately 1 billion years, the sun will have gotten hot enough to render most, if not all of the Earth uninhabitable for life as we know it.

    Space is fascinating.

  • Completely agree. Strange new worlds and lower decks are absolutely amazing trek shows, Picard season 3 was pretty good even though I didn't care much for the first 2 seasons and even though discovery is typically the least liked of new trek, it'll always have a special place in my heart since that show is what made me a trek fan in the first place.

I've since watched ALL trek content except for most of TOS and TAS, it's just to old for me. I've watched the most highly recommended episodes but I just can't get into that show and I've tried multiple times.

  • Do you ever get tired of being a complete and utter piece of shit? Your whole comment history is mostly just you being an unempathetic asshole. Must be nice to not give a shit about anyone but yourself, really simplifies life I bet.

  • What's taters, precious?

  • Yup agreed completely. Back in the early 2010s, when we went from 1GHz single core CPUs to 1.2GHz dual core CPUs while doubling the RAM, things were a lot more interesting cause you could actually feel the speed improvements between generations.

These days even a budget phone is gonna be more than enough for browsing your social media of choice, texting, calling and doing the basics which is all I need my phone to do. I'm planning on keeping my Pixel 6 until it either can't hold a charge for long enough or it gets to slow for my liking, whichever comes first.

While my wallet is glad I don't feel the need to upgrade so often, I do miss actually getting excited about the next generation of phones and looking forward to my next upgrade so I could marvel at the generational improvements.

  • I had a 4 day, 10 hour schedule at my last job but it's seasonal so I got laid off recently sadly. But even 4 ten hour days is MUCH better than 5 eight hour days per week, working 10 hours a day is easily offset by a whole extra day off. I'd still absolutely love a 4 day schedule based around a 32 hour work week, that would benefit not just me with increased overtime but it would benefit everyone.

  • That person is one of the few usernames I consistently recognize here on lemmy as well, consistently has high quality comments and great arguments. Definitely a great person to have here on lemmy, thanks Flyingsquid!
