  • I understand your position now. You can probably have it in your Advanced Directive to deny you life-ending care should that be an option where you live. Hopefully you won't get to make that determination for someone else.

If a person is in such immense pain that they would rather be dead and there is no reasonable expectation from an objective standpoint that their situation will change (e.g. they have metastatic cancer in multiple organs), then they will never return to the state of mind that they want to live. Denying death at that point is sadistic.

  • Now extend that idea to the torturer being cancer cells. You will suffer extreme agony until you die. There will be no reprieve outside a partial numbing of the pain from high morphine doses that keep you mostly out of consciousness.

Or have I misunderstood your other comments and you covered this scenario when discussing the terminally ill?

  • Is it possible you don't read people well and don't communicate as well as you think? It could be the doctor(s) you were chatting up thought it was a bit too much. I'm only suspicious of this because you've been posting about having problems interacting with people at your workplace (new and old wards) for a long time now.

  • If the Democrats wouldn't have done the same shitty things or worse, then both sides aren't the goddamn same. If the country didn't want Trump to do the shitty things he said he would do. maybe they should have voted in another President and party.

  • You have the correct answer, echoed by others. If one could draw a sharp line, then we would see proto-chickens laying eggs containing chickens and then some of those chickens laying eggs containing proto-chickens, back and forth for many generations. The combination of alleles that qualifies an organism as a chicken would arise and then often be reversed by recombination in the next generation. Eventually as more and more of the population has chicken allele combinations, the percentage of chickens born would grow as the reversals became less numerous than the forward conversions.

Now, what defines whether an egg is a proto-chicken egg or a chicken egg? An egg is formed by the action of maternal genes, so it will have the characteristics given to it by the proto-chicken mother. But if you just define an egg that hatches a chicken as a chicken egg (rather than an egg laid by a chicken), the egg always comes first.
