  • As per the Ecobee notice this only impacts the two original models and they still function as regular thermostats still, they are just not providing any of the smart / cloud features anymore.

Newer units support local homekit control, which can also be paired with open systems like Home Assistant for full local control for automation.

  • How exactly did you start remote play together with Shredders revenge? In some games it is part of the in game invite option, for others I have tried just triggering it from the steam menu while the game is running as I didn’t see a native option. For shedders revenge when I triggered it from the menu none of the controllers appeared for mapping.

  • Even for unrepairable, at fault replacement(you stepped on it) apple will normally sell you a reconditioned perfect replacement for 50% the cost.

Reliable repair and ultrafast swap and restore are one off the reasons I stick with apple.

In no case is it ever “ almost the price of a new one”.

    • Bit rot is still a problem, you need a high integrity file system and or RAID to avoid that
    • Full drive failure is still about as likely, IE the main reason for RAID of multiple drives in the first place.

A good read on the problems with SSDs SSD 101: How Reliable are SSDs?

  • Some people purchase a phone based on looks, some for customization, others for specific apps, some it comes just down to what they can afford

I can come up with strong reasons to use Window or MacOS as your primary desktop os. IOS or Android as your phone OS. Windows / Linux / BSD for a server or appliance OS.

If someone thinks one size fits all THEY are the ones that should not be trusted in terms of tech insights.

  • Or worse they purchase them for protection and train them to be aggressive then neglect them.

Training a large dog to be obedient and highly controlled in a good way is A LOT of work and expensive if you go through classes to do it. However you normally end up with a highly reliable and predictable dog.

  • For those with the physical games they also probably want genuine/1:1 playback. There are a number of FPGA based options now that provide a near perfect original experience but with modern options.

I really like the modular idea but the actual play experience looked horrible and the cartridge/controller modules are expensive.

  • I think the true summary is that this is a deeply flawed software emulation system that can read original CD/DVD/Carts and use original controllers.

Really looking at the actual performance it seems worse than running these emulators via something like emulation station with a bunch of image / roms.

  • How bad it is can sometimes depend on the content creator settings.

I follow a few that are mostly funded by Patreon not YouTube revenue now, they tended to have lower monetization settings enabled.

I have tried to watch some videos that had pre, mid, post adds enabled etc.. On a medium length video you would get an interruption frequently.

I use ublock but even with that some changes used to cause videos to hang or fail to play when the ad was supposed to be running.

  • 128 GB has been more than enough for me for over 8years ? I haven't gotten a phone with more than that.. I am currently at 72GB/128GB storage and most of that is Apps. I do go and archive photos and videos off my phone from time to time however.

If you NEVER delete anything, sure, you will run out. Or if you are super heavy into photos and video maybe but it is still A LOT of storage on a phone.
