  • What about so called russian "dissidents"? Navalniy and his team openly supported the annexation of Crimea (and destruction of Ukrainian and Crimean Tartar culture).

The recently exchanged "dissidents" also showed their true colours by supporting the annexation of currently occupied territories in Ukraine.

We are not discussing US right now! The US did not annex Basra state, steal all the local children, force everyone to speak English and send anyone caught talking Arabic to a torture chamber; all with support of somewhere between 65% to 85% of their population.

The overwhelming majority of Russians are genocidal imperialists. They support invasions of foreign countries, annexations, attempts at elimatining local language and culture and setting up mass torture camps for anyone opposed to the yoke of russian degeneracy.

The "trying to get by" pitch is a ruse. Both qualitative and quantitative research (different methodologies, including ones that attempt to account for preference falsification) show this is not true and that on an outcome basis, the overwhelming majority of russians are indeed genocidal imperialists.

  • While this is somewhat true (state funded, but with some level of independence), your statement doesn't jive with reality.

I follow RFE/RL in both English and several other languages. Their reporting is far better than many multi-billion dollar private news companies in the West.

And it's not a minor difference either, the western news companies are not even close.

  • Practically all russians have had access to fully uncensored YT just one click away on their smartphones for over a decade (until today).

That didn't really change anything. Russia's problems lie in the attitude of the overwhelming majority of its people, not in the lack of access to information.

They make a conscious and fully informed choice to be genocidal imperialists and embrace authoritarianism.

  • It's the russian government. There have been rumors that they are planning to shut down YT for good in the last few months.

  • A very interesting and unique metaphor. Very true too. :)

  • This is why I avoid opening up "service" devices to the broader internet.

My current work around is to access a computer with TeamViewer on a given local network and manage things from there. There are probably flaws with this approach too, but it seems like a more manageable solution than giving IoT-type devices access to the open internet.

I do wonder if protocol like Yggdrasil would be a good solution in the future.

  • Sorry, you're pitching this to the wrong person.

I am one of those people that think that there only two use cases for crypto:

    1. Financial speculation
    2. Criminal activities; fraud, sanctions busting, international crime gang operationa

I disagree with the way you use the term ideologue. It is reasonable to view crypto as being defined solely by the two abovementioned use cases.

This is not a purely ideological viewpoint.

  • Don't think we are getting an official desktop mode any time soon, ChromeOS is Google's laptop/desktop operating system.

ChromeOS ran Android apps relatively well when I last tried this a few years ago. Most apps were clearly not designed for desktop UI/UX. Many didn't work all that well as tablet apps either.

  • Harris is on Threads and recently you've been able to follow people on Threads from Mastadon.

A Mastadon "native" account would be best of course, especially considering the amount raised.

  • Don't see why this is getting downvoted.

It's a solid article about a crypto-scheme. The goons who run the scheme are affiliated with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.

  • Interesting discussion, but I would argue lack of reputational damage is primarily due to lack of competition. If it was easy to switch (and government policies were built around doing everything possible to reduce barriers to entry and switching costs) to other options, reputational damage would likely have far more severe consequences.

  • I was curious what Arweave was, so I went to their site.

Turns out it's yet another crypto scheme.

I thought this statement on their landing page was particularly funny:

The Arweave protocol is stable, mature and widely adopted.

  • Google ... president of global affairs Kent Walker said ... “As this process continues, we will remain focused on making products that people find helpful and easy to use.”

Very fucking easy to use. You need find undocumented URL parameters to remove the AI answers from their search engine.

  • Thanks for the clarification, I misunderstood.

Smotrich was born in Golan Heights and never seemed to have lived in Ukraine (and I am guessing he doesn't speak Ukrainian?).

Why would we "take him back"? :)

And what's he going to do in Ukraine anyway?

Don't think he has what it takes to fight the russians.

It's one thing to demolish Gaza and another thing to fight against a strong, well equipped and deadly enemy.

  • I agree in principle with what you are saying, but this particular statement is very brutal considering this is an official statement from a senior Israeli government leader.

  • Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich implies he believes that blocking humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip is “justified and moral” even if it causes 2 million civilians to die of hunger, adding however that the international community won’t allow this to happen.

I personally avoid "taking sides" (we have our own problems in Ukraine) in what wikipedia calls the Israel–Hamas war, but this is a full on open call for genocide.
