Apt pinning is such a nice way to pull in some new packages without affecting the whole system. It's interesting in this specific case and also more generally! I have used it before once or twice but this is the best example I've seen for multiple packages.

Nah some people did it in the UK. We were in a bubble with some vulnerable people so we were being really careful despite not being at high risk personally

I haven't chosen cutting edge hardware (AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT) so I don't think drivers should be an issue in my particular case.

I think separating /home is a good idea so I can try some different distros and compare.

Is there any issue with buying a card that was previously used for mining?

When you say RX 6600 do you mean that one specifically or the range including 6600XT etc? I don't have a good handle on what the real world differences between the variants are.

What's everyone's recommendation for a cheap AMD GPU to use with Linux? I was looking recently at a Radeon RX 580, I know there are much better cards out there but the prices are about double (£350-400 instead of £180). I'd mostly be using it to play games like the remastered Rome Total War.

The UK doesn't need to be part of this really, there's one link to mainland Europe (the channel tunnel) and the rest should just be sensible UK road and rail network planning. NI and Ireland already have ways to cooperate when it comes to planning transport on the Ireland of Island.

I say "in theory" because our government just scrapped HS2 phase 2, so our rail network is going to continue to be shit for years.
