  • Microsoft will buy my teapottery if anti-trust regulations don't keep them in check. And, in today's climate, I don't believe for a moment that anybody will make a reasonable attempt to do so.

  • Very cool.

    I like Paint for its simplicity, and since I don't need all the extra bells and whistles most of the time, I've never bothered with learning how to use Photoshop or GIMP.

    I've been using Paint.net for the last few years, but I'll try the new Paint features as well and compare them to see which one I find better.

  • I wasn't sold on it when it was first revealed, but looking at it now, I kinda dig it. Seems to embrace the platformer elements a lot more than I originally thought, which I really like, and movement/combat seems very fluid.

  • I live in Italy. Most of our cities are at least one millennia older than yours. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere and it's still a few centuries older than the USA as a whole.

    Our cities were definitely not designed with public transit in mind, yet we have a somewhat consistent public transit everywhere (although it could definitely be improved in lots of places, including my town). For example: excluding a small car trip to the nearest train station, I travel to my work place (in Milan) exclusively with public transport.

    Why can't US cities do the same?

  • I open a map on paint.net, overlay a grid on it if it hasn't one already, and place player/enemy tokens on it. Then I stream it to all the group.

    It's 100% free and it's relatively quick to set up and run.

  • It released on Mac before Xbox Series and I find it amusing.

  • I loved Wargroove. It was the perfect successor to Advance Wars and improved the formula in almost every way, from more fast paced skirmishes (thanks to the alternative win condition of defeating the enemy commander) to the more balanced commanders.

    I had some gripes with it, but hopefully they will be solved in this second iteration.

    To anyone who likes turn-based strategy games, I highly recommend giving it a try!

  • Apparently Rage is not just Rage anymore.

    It's more "heightened senses" or something like that. If you have read the Wheel of Time, it's kind of like the Flame and the Void.

  • As for Game Pass and other subscription services, Whitten said that developers like Aggro Crab would not be on the hook, as the fees are charged to distributors, which in the Game Pass example would be Microsoft.

    In which case, Microsoft and other distributors will not release Unity games on their subscription services. This will harm game developers either way.

    Geez, the internet and the tech industry as a whole is collapsing. Twitter, Reddit, Unity... What the fuck is going on in the last few years?

  • Yep, it's on Netflix.

    Development began at Blue Sky before it got shut down by Disney, and was passed to Annapurna.

    There are a few changes from the comic, but it's overall very fun, and the graphics and animations are godly.

  • Annapurna Animation recently released Nimona, which is godly to look at.

    Hopefully they will perform as well with this one.

  • Woah, that's awesome. I live in Italy and my therapist asked for €80/hour. I eventually had to choose between daily expenses, university fees and therapy, and the latter was, unfortunately, the one I decided to cut.

  • Years of therapy cost a LOT of money though, not everyone can afford that.

  • Fixed a bug where the human would sometimes procrastinate too much, saying "It's a problem of my future self".

  • Yeah, I had never heard of Pokemon Sleep and was curious to see what it was about, but OP's summary immediately killed my interest. I avoid battle pass-like content and FOMO-focused games like plague.

  • The comment section has become a meme already, but this post reminded me of the pitiful amount of games focused on dragons.

    I wish there were more games akin to HttyD/Eragon where you play as a dragon knight, or games where you play as the dragon itself.

  • A lot of gaming sites asked developers whose games were on GamePass what they thought of it, and the answer was predictable. Like, nobody is going to ill talk the provider of the service their game is on.

    Other developers didn't speak ill of it because of the fear of burning bridges, I suppose.

    The Game Bakers (Furi, Haven) talked about their difficult relationship with GP on Vice (LINK).

    “Game Pass is such a fantastic platform for players,” said Leprince, “so there are possibly more Xbox players than ever interested in indie games. Unfortunately, without Game Pass, it is also very hard for many indie games to be visible on Xbox.”

    Basically, the problem with a subscription service such as GP is that it cannibalizes other games' sales outside the service itself. And since you are not guaranteed to land on GP, developing a game Xbox may be more of a gamble than it is on other platforms. I fear this may become the norm as more subscription services are rolled out and start encroaching the market.

    There's also the problem with founding. Furi sold 78% of its copies through PS+, yet only one third of its budget was paid by Sony for the deal. Developers have to decide whether they need less money immediately, or potentially more money down the line; but for indie developers, sometimes there is no choice: they either accept the deal, or shut down because they don't have the founding to complete their next game.

    I really like the Vice article I linked because it's one of the very few who tried to analyze the situation impartially, with data backing it up. Most of the other industry journalists at the time were like "GP is the future! Gamers spend less and everyone gains more money!!1!", parroting Spencer's bullshit.

  • If a warrior can withstand the tail weapon of an adult dragon without batting an eye, they should be able to perform Steel Wind Strike just fine.

    Besides, nothing in SWS is explicitly supernatural, except for the "teleport next to one of the targets" bit, which could be flavoured as "you move really fast next to them".
