  • Actually both options are possible here in the Netherlands, it's a matter of preference of the patient. In both cases a doctor will be present, whom will also supply the drugs if a patient chooses to take them themselves.

This case is incredibly rare though, it is already extremely hard to have a euthanasia request granted for mental issues at an older age, let alone someone so young.

A bit more background on 'the aftermath' by the way, as the article doesn't mention that: after the euthanasia has taken place a coroner will establish that this was indeed the cause of death. Once that is done the public prosecutor needs to give permission before the remains may be buried or cremated.

Also, the coroner will send the report of both the physician who approved and performed the euthanasia and that of the SCEN-doctor, who performed the obligatory 2nd opinion mentioned in the article, to a special committee that will check if everything went by the book. Not only the procedure leading up to the euthanasia, but also the act of the euthanasia itself. If there are doubts about whether or not all means of treatment were exhausted and if there really was undue and indefinite suffering, or if there are any doubts if the patient really wanted to go through with the procedure at 'the moment supreme', a doctor can be held accountable for that. Fortunately that is rare, as the whole procedure is not taken lightly.

  • The early Lenovo period W series were (imho) very good as well, still have my W500 series which is built like a tank. Survived years of college, years of lugging it around to customers and data centres and having somebody spill a full cup of coffee over it (yes, the drain holes do work!). It only required replacing of the monitor cable once, which was a pretty easy thing to do. Unfortunately the CCFL backlight has lost quite some luminance by now, but guess after 16 years that is to be expected. Can't get myself to part from it though, so many memories attached to it.

  • Nah, I'm also fine with it. Fingerprint sensors hate me anyway, on every phone I owned I needed to rescan my prints every few weeks or so because they just won't recognise me after a while. These days I just use passwords and pin codes.

  • Sony forced the studio behind Helldivers 2 to make a PSN account obligatory after the game launched. That's a pretty crappy move because PSN is not available in roughly 120 177 countries, so if you live in one of those you can suddenly not play your game anymore. And Sony hasn't got the best reputation when it comes to securing and selling their user's data, so players are pretty upset and vocal about this.

But I would say that present day Sony's dick moves do not really fit in a topic about PS2 nostalgia.

  • I've got a waterproof timer which I set when I need to shower within a set timeframe. Seeing a countdown helps keeping a sense of urgency and helps me with not getting lost in thought. When I'm not on a limit I'll put it in clock mode so I can let my thoughts wander, while still having some sense of elapsed time.

  • Yeah, my comment was most definitely not meant to warn others against it. Just as a heads-up that it does not work for everyone. And if you do have adverse side effects like I did: it sucks, but keep in mind that it will pass.

  • I've tried weed once when I had a migraine, as I've heard that statement from others. It's hard to describe how it felt exactly, but it sure as hell didn't help me. It felt as if I was locked up inside my head, which was filled with pain and agony. As if there was no world anymore, just pure pain. Definitely a hard 'nope, never again' for me.

I'll just stick with popping a triptane and go to bed. The combination of migraine+triptane always gives me the weirdest dreams, it feels like insurance-covered tripping. 😋

  • My surname contains spaces. I've yet to encounter an airline that is able to handle that properly, so my last name on a ticket never matches my passport name. Either parts are missing, or they just print it as a single word. Never given me issues, so I doubt a slightly truncated middle name is going to pose a problem.

  • Hmm, I've taken a look and can only find references to the location being random so far. I was quite sure that I've also read that the magnitude could vary, but maybe I misremembered. I'll dig a little further and see if I can find a reference.

  • The reaction between a shield and laser is completely random, not knowing wether you are going to vaporise a few molecules, an entire city or everything in between makes it very unreliable for warfare purposes.

And you'd probably find the whole Landsraad against you, as using atomics is outlawed. While a bomb like that isn't an atomic weapon by definition, the effects are the same and it stands to reason that they'll therefore still retaliate in full force.
