Sheep are really friendly. I guess as herd animals they are very affectionate if they trust you, and very wary if they don't know you. Try throwing them some dried corn a few times, they'll fall in love with you and be eating out your hand and wanting cuddles in no time.
I enjoyed that. I could go to the Wikipedia front page and click a random article, but (for me) flicking quickly between some topics until being interested in an ancient Mayan aristocrat and reading about her, is a content delivery service that works for me.
I get why folks might hate it, or not need it, but I often look to my phone as a randomising information delivery system. I can always look into stuff I'm interested in, but I need the chance of being introduced to topics that would never occur to me. Journalism and social media can provide a route to that, but there's something to be said for scrolling through topics until I find something that intrigues me, instead of preferencing whatever promotes engagement on Lemmy (or wherever).
I'm super curious to know what contexts you send this meme. Is it just something funny that one of you remembers occasionally and sends? Or does it have a specific meaning like "sorry can't come have to work"?
Danielle Fischel and Rider Strong (Topanga and Shawn from Boy Meets World). Trying to understand how I could be attracted to both led to some important realisations as a young teen...
Can you remember where to allow curse words? I've looked through the settings and tried web searches for curse and swear words but can't seem to find it.
Yeah, feels like this is much less of a challenge in a civilised country. I'd just go and say I've got amnesia. I'd probably get access to various supports so I wouldn't be very worried, I'm sure I could requalify as something quickly enough. Be a bit of a hassle, but I can't see any interesting ways to exploit it, so I'd just make the best of it.
Futo looks good! It's the emoji prediction that kept me hooked to SwiftKey. Anyone know the word that will suggest the 😘 emoji? Kiss and heart suggest others. (I know it's a little cringe, but my partner and I use it a lot in messages so I need it to be convenient.)
Android phone, old android phone (for bedtime audiobooks without any distractions), Linux desktop, windows laptop (for work), Supernote writing tablet, kobo ereader, pixel watch. I fly quite a lot and always get a look at security when I pull out my 5th device...
My boomer parents shared some boomer comedy video about "pensioner adhd" or something, with an old lady trying to send a letter and being continually distracted, forgetting what she's doing and starting a new task, again and again. They were laughing and saying how that's what it's like when you get old, and I genuinely didn't understand, "that's just what my life is like".
That, coupled with life long education / career problems that ended with me signed off work for longer and longer stretches I finally spoke to a professional about it...
I'm sure that's a good community for lots of folks, but I'd defintely be up for a more random facts / trivia / history / science type stuff rather than American politics, Israel / paltestine, etc. Anyone else up for something? We could start one.
I think that a lot about how many couples I know have mild friction because one of them is an early riser and the other more of a night owl. It can be a bit annoying, but for most of human existence splitting the time you're awake and vigilant must have been quite an advantage.
Why would I have to abduct my alternate? Can't I just make a living for myself in the the other universe? I'd be going to one that had much more liberal ideas about identity and needing money. I'm old enough that decisions made during my lifetime could* have lead to fairly different state if lefty / anarchist forces had been more successful than oligarchs and right-wing reactionaries.
*I'm assuming the point of multiverses is they don't need to be highly likely, just logically possible.
Our staircase was built over two centuries ago, and still does its job!
