  • There use to always be a crowd of TSLA stock owners (fewer now) defending Tesla

Seems like a resurgence now, plus I’m seeing a lot more misleading videos.

This time it’s worse: all scam and manipulation.

Before there were a lot of true believers and the bubble went on too long to be just a scam

  • Yeah it’s such a degeneracy…..

When I worked in investments, it was all about finding the best statistical model to balance returns against risk. It was fascinating how complex the models could be, and even included currency hedging to reduce the risk of exchange rates. And most importantly to also minimize trades to control costs and tax impact. This was before lightning trading: plenty of the funds were monthly trading. Those were the good old days when a better algorithm could shave points enough to stand out but everyone was on similar footing

  • That’s the big question: do you recognize the scam in time to take advantage of it, and have the awareness to get out in time when there are still suckers?

I know a few people who made money on crypto in the early stages this way: recognize the scam but take advantage.

It was probably possible to take similar advantage of the Trump bribe laundering crypto scam, even without the benefit of the insider trading and market manipulation

I very briefly considered it but don’t trust my awareness to get out in time, plus participating in the scam would eat me up.

  • That’s in the article too.

I don’t know their reasoning for the 5’ and I live in a different climate, but ….

    • sides of my house with shrubs tend to catch dead leaves, weeds, brush
    • sides of my house without, all those dead leaves blow away

Maybe it’s as simple as avoiding things that catch dead leaves near the house

  • Donald Trump is a bully. Bullies like hurting people. They find someone different who can’t fight back, and attack them first. They try to get other people to hate those who are different and can’t fight back. Donald Trump is a bully who has decided trans people are different from others and can’t fight back. He manipulates other people by getting them to attack trans people too

  • my middle name is my dad’s first name

This is what I went with: my elder has my first name as a middle name and my younger has my Dads first name as a middle name. It seems like a good way to honor someone or connect someone while still giving them their own identity

  • It’s that second step that’s the problem. While I also like the idea of a chain, the junior or second seems wrong. A chain is a tradition, a legacy. A junior is just a copy, not their own self.

I thought through this on my first kid: it would be unfair to make him a junior, unfair to make him live in my shadow. However my brother is a junior so if I were in his place I would definitely consider naming my kid the third

  • This is one I’m guilty of. There are too many left lane campers and I just don’t have patience for that anymore. Why do so many drivers immediately move to the fast lane rather than “stay right except to pass”?

Why do so many drivers insist their definition of fast is the one true definition, rather than choose the lane based on relative speed and let the cops worry about who is too fast?

  • Red light prohibits entering the junction, not staying there.

While true, That kind of talk leads to gridlock as more people enter the intersection expecting to go after the light is red. It also leads to more “stretching the yellow” well into red lights.

People don’t seem to get the distinction that it’s to allow getting unstuck. It’s not to encourage entering the intersection when you can’t go anywhere (welll … except for some poorly implemented intersections where that’s the only way to turn left)

  • The problem is that we don’t yet have a practical alternative to jet fuel, except high speed rail and Zoom. The technologies are all too young.

And it’s not just cost, it’s trying to make them useful enough. Batteries will not take you across a continent, for any cost.

We’re more at the stage of “fuck the cost. Give me another option to try”

  • It is a society thing. There were many ways I never got along with my ex mother in law …… but one of them was that if I forgot my soap or shampoo and used my wife’s she made a big deal of it. I mean I would thank her for (passive aggressively) complimenting my scent but that’s annoying.

It’s just soap and shampoo. I generally prefer unscented and strongly prefer something that doesn’t trigger my psoriasis but the bottom line is getting clean
