  • That would be a terrible precedent...

Oh we'll just "cleanly" (silently) update to a different fork by a different dev.

Thats exactly what we are trying to avoid google play "cleanly" updating our apps to the new, spyware apps

  • Pipewire and debian stable here

BT audio works like 99% of the time. Then there's that 1% it just stops working for no apparent reason and you spend an hour googling why without finding any answers. And in the end, unpairing, forgetting the device and the re-adding it fixes the problem in 2 mins

Overall very happy once i remember the quick fix

  • Depends on where in canada you are going. It's a huge place. Each province ia very different from the others

Here is some general information that applies almost everywhere: Food: expensive. Almost all the grocery stores are owned by only 3 companies, so they dont really compete to have good prices Telecom: Almost all the internet/mobile providers are owned by only 3 companies, so they dont really compete to have good prices Health care: is really bad everywhere. Hospitals are all over capacity. People have problems finding a family doctor

Despite all the above problems, it's overall a good place to live

If you can be more specific about where you are moving to, it would help. I'm sure we can give you some good things to lool forward to instead of all the negative stuff above

    Welcome!

  • Uhhhhh. The article you linked says nothing about "free as in air", which is the term you used. And thats the only reason i used it

Free as in speech or free as in freedom are the english similes to express the idea of libre

Free air or free beer are gratis. Without monetary cost.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratis_versus_libre?wprov=sfla1

Free software is always libre and sometimes gratis

  • The "free" in FOSS stands for free like freedom, not free like air

FOSS projects cost time and money. Non-profits still need money. Not sure why everyone thinks everything should be free of monetary charges on the internet.

Am am not sure what the situation of opensubtitles is. Is it just barely covering costs? Or turning a profit? I have no idea. But i do hate how everyone thinks they're entitled to free work and free hosting costs of every website on the internet

  • I dunno... I could actually see guinan spouting off some bullshit about hard work

"You know, that lt barclay spends all his time on the holodeck.. If he worked a little harder in engineering, he could afford a.... Oh wait, we live in a post-scarcity society. He already has all has basic needs met."

  • I dont't understand how anyone is skimping on memory.... All the memory fabs (micron, samsung, etc)took huge hits this year because of low prices and low sales

Shouldn't companies be filling their devices to the brim with RAM? Is this just greed? What happened to the saying "cheap as chips"?

  • Uhm... These people are morons....

Gov't funded doesn't mean Liberal (party) funded..... The CBC gets funding when conservatives are in power as well...

The fact that conservatives think that funding = favourable coverage says more about them than anything else

  • Henry Wu : Actually they can't breed in the wild. Population control is one of our security precautions. There's no unauthorized breeding in Jurassic Park.

Dr. Ian Malcolm : How do you know they can't breed?

Henry Wu : Well, because all the animals in Jurassic Park are female. We've engineered them that way.
