  • Not sure if I'm a fan of the "AliExpress SSD" recommendation. They're badly built and unreliable, you won't know what capacity you get, and they can be incredibly slow.

Regular, known-brand SSDs have dropped so much in price and are very affordable at low capacities. That should be a much safer investment than buying heaps of most likely unusable drives.

  • Why are you mounting the volume with the file system path, instead of the volume name? You should be able to mount the volume normally by specifying it in the volume section, i.e.

    services:
      duplicati:
        volumes:
          - nextcloud_data:ro

    volumes:
      - nextcloud_data
        - external: true

That should grant Duplicati read-only access to the entire volume without messing around with absolute file paths.

  • Others have already supplied a bunch of very handy guides and sources, as well as the disclaimer that the possibilities for selfhosting pretty much anything are endless.

That being said, I want to supply my own source, a guide I've started writing up to bridge exactly this gap: https://how2host.it. It's still in development, and I'm working on more and more detailed guides. It's also most definitely opinionated (the use of Linux as the host, docker as the containerization and nginx as the reverse proxy, as well as a bunch of other things) but it'll provide you with a solid foundation of knowledge which you should be able to expand from yourself.

I hope it can be of use to you!

  • You can pay with crypto on porkbun too, so in the anonymity regard it should be high up on the list. Other than that, they've never caused me any trouble over multiple registrations, always fast, always zero fuss. Much recommended.

  • You should look into NPM Streams, they're built exactly for this purpose. It's included by default, just another type of host.

  • If you want it beginner friendly, I can recommend nginx proxy Manager, which is basically a web ui frontend for nginx. This has its own drawbacks, but makes setup very uncomplicated.

  • Ultra is what I personally have been using for a while now without a single problem. But as I already said, there are plenty of other hosters with the same featureset, though I cannot make specific recommendations - but the seedboxes community on reddit may.

Regarding the DMCA, usually these hosters base their operations out of countries with lax or nonexistant copyright laws, allowing them to simply disregard incoming takedown notices. In Ultra's case, they claim to forward copyright notices to the respective server owner, but I have yet to receive a single notice. Though I'm also exclusively on private trackers, maybe thats a reason too.

  • Why go all this way to build this stack on German hardware under the constant risk of being found out by copyright holders and being fined hundreds if not thousands of euros - when you could just get a seedbox that's automatically configured for exactly this purpose and can run all the apps you need? Look at ultra.cc for example, they just work, don't cost a lot of money and don't annoy you with DMCA notices. And if you dislike their price or anything else, there's limitless options out there.

  • The people who researched this topic and wrote that article are most probably not the ones working on the browser. As any company, Mozilla has departments.

  • Part of the fun of selfhosting is the challenge of figuring these things out and building your solutions. If you decide to go with the selfhosted bitwarden variant, there are a couple of options:

    1. you can directly dump the entire database on a fixed schedule, compress it into a gzip archive, and store it in a separate location on your VPS. These backups take up very little space and can, with the help of a script, be automated very well.
    2. you can use one of the plenty existing bitwarden backup containers that are made for this exact purpose and might offer a more comfortable setup.
    3. with any of these solutions, you'd probably want to pull these backups from your local storage to some remote storage, to ensure that in case of an accidental and complete server wipe, no data is lost / a recent backup is available. this can be done with solutions like rclone, to copy the files from your server to a remote location, like an FTP server you've rented or any cloudstorage you may have available.

There's probably even more options, but these are the ones I could think of quickly. If you have questions or need help regarding any of these, let me know, and I'll send you additional ressources to read through.

  • The clients cache the vault locally whenever they are connected to the server (at least I think they do. The mobile apps for sure, the desktop app probably too, the browser extension im not sure). Adding entries without server connection simply won't work though, so if you can you should somehow make the server accessible from outside your LAN.

  • The review embargo was lifted with the start of the early access, meaning that all the regular review channels that received review copies have already posted their content.

  • Yes and no. If you get the DRM-free GOG release directly, you would not have this problem. Since this person stated they used the DODI repack, they're now dependant on which release DODI used for his repack, since it may well be a Steam or Epic Games release.

I quickly looked it up, and the repack is based on the InsaneRamZes release, which in turn is based on either GOG or EGS, depending on which forum post you go by. So I'm not 100 % sure what's actually being used here. According to the PCGamingWiki, there's no difference in save location between the different stores, so best case scenario, OP can simply update the game to V2 and everything should be picked up.

  • This is only true sometimes. Some crackers will change the save location for some games, and the location where the save will be stored is entirely dependant on how the cracker has removed or emulated the DRM. I've also had the pleasure of the crack-save not being compatible with the genuine-save, meaning I couldn't transfer my savedata after purchasing a game. Though I don't know how frequent that is.

I don't know how it works for this particular Cyberpunk crack.

  • i've been very happy with https://www.teamos.xyz. It's (at least in part) a torrent tracker, and I'm not sure if it considers itself public or private, but I've found most of the software I've ever looked for there. You're probably not gonna be as lucky if looking for niche stuff, but it's worth a shot.

  • The gripe with golf usually lies within the incredibly high amounts of water needed to keep the courses green.

  • You can use a page like https://httpstatus.io/ to check all transferred HTTP headers, or simply inspect the responses in your browser DevTools. If all the headers are present as Nextcloud wants them to be, you can discard the warnings, if there are headers set wrongly, adjust your SWAG settings.

  • Though most often applied in contexts where the bullying is done by an entire group of people, usually to completely isolate the targeted person.
