Yes, your 3rd party email client uses your username and password to SIGN IN, which constitutes as signing in for Google.

I run Linux Mint Cinnamon, latest version, on a GPD Pocket 2 with absolutely no issues. The touch screen, although it is a small one, works perfectly.

My main OS since Linux Mint 17.3, and still very happy with it. Switched from MacOS after a 10 year Apple stint and haven't regretted it for even a second. My hardware needs were much cheaper if anything.
