  • The original overview dates back to 2023 but is updated, e.g. to mention EoL of DivestOS. Security updates are observed over a longer period of time. Its criticism is that though updates are provided monthly their release in comparision to the release of the patches is delayed by some days and sometimes incomplete. Can be compared here: https://source.android.com/docs/security/bulletin/asb-overview and here: https://calyxos.org/news/ The original overview in German can be found here: https://www.kuketz-blog.de/android-grapheneos-calyxos-und-co-unter-der-lupe-custom-roms-teil1/

  • I'd recommend iodéOS instead of /e/OS as the former is considered a bit more secure than the latter, see overview of Custom ROMs here (summarized from a well known German IT-Security Blog). You can also buy a FP5 with iodé preinstalled.

  • I have an Asus Eee PC from 2009 running Puppy Linux (as a secondary device).
As already pointed out you will need a leightweight distro and desktop environment.

https://distrochooser.de/ (available in English) can help you find the right distro, it takes into account the age of your device, your Linux knowledge, use case and a lot more.

  • I thought this was an easy one, but turns out it is not.

  • Following the link I get a disco version of the STD theme.

  • Asus never disappointed me, I have Linux running on a 16 year old eeePC and on a 1 year old TUF gaming notebook.

Two friends of mine have it running smoothly on ThinkPads.

I would never buy HP again, to run Linux on it. It was and is such an effort to get and keep it running with HP being so restrictive regarding BIOS, drivers, and so on.

  • "It’s so hard to get sht made unless it’s a fking Marvel comic."
And consequently equally hard to get anything else but a Marvel movie to watch. Art monetarized to this existent just isn't art anymore.
Don't misunderstand me, I like some good entertainment now and then, but I prefer movies that make you think and can even change you for the better.

  • It's my daily driver since University and I like Fedora best. What I really love about Linux, is that it empowers you to manage your PC (and even your phone) on your own and without BigTech. No Microsoft, no Apple, no Google ... that is invaluable!

  • Almost the same here with installing Ubuntu on my 78-year-old Ma's PC and her working with it for four years now.

  • Second Lawnchair. AFAIK it's the only FOSS launcher that supports Graphene OS' Private Space.

  • Might be worth taking a look at David Zindell's "The Ea Cycle".

  • "The Realm of the Elderlings" in general I'd say.

  • Unfortunately AnySoft Keyboard doesn't seem to receive updates anymore, latest release dates back to 2022.

    Switched to Heli Board now.

  • Obtainium

IMO the best way to keep one's apps up to date.
