  • You’ll like it. It’s really versatile and has been around for like 20+ years so lots of support for it. It can be pretty comprehensive.

  • If I understand what I’ve read, you may be interested in a SIP software called asterisk. It may do what you’re looking for.

  • What’s worse is that disabling it in settings does not survive a restart.

Drives me nuts. Always makes me say things I didn’t Nintendo.

  • Via their Sync service, yes. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, they officially endorse iCloud to sync your files, which I personally use. They discourage using Dropbox, but I reckon it’s possible.

  • The thing I most appreciate about Obsidian is, for now at least, they at least partially embrace a sort of FOSS mindset in that they offer a proprietary thing via a sort of compromise: your data is stored in plain text in markdown, so it remains 100% portable and parseable by anything which can parse markdown.

But I get what you mean.

  • Okay. I’ve 100% canceled your interview.

  • So many—almost too many—extensions!

  • Obsidian.md hands down if you can transition to markdown instead of rich text. Lets users have wiki style hyperlinks to notes.

  • Gave all that up during the cord-cutting movement in the 2010s and haven’t looked back. Dumped new car loans and leases. My current car is a 2016, and it’s the only one we have in my little family. We work together to do all the things we want.

Diverted most of that money into investments and savings and can travel a lot more.

I still have some subscriptions, but they are fairly unique services or software for which FOSS alternatives are just too much of a headache for me.

I try to fill my time away from screens and electronics, and as a result I’ve been much happier.

  • I really enjoy the variety and diversity of federation. There are subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences each instance brings. It’s refreshing.

  • Now for the average joe, there's the social security system which will cover up to 100k in money lost in a bank collapse

In the US, FDIC insurance covers up to $250,000 for most depositors.

  • “Could not fetch embedded watch page”

  • Exposure and repetition through low stakes practice.

When you are out and about, think about what you would do if x happened to y at the moment you’re there. Standing in line behind an older person and suddenly they collapse? Be observant and notice if they seemed stressed, swaying, or uneven on their feet; be ready to slow their fall—place them into the recovery position and point to someone and say “YOU, call [emergency service number]”.

There are many aspects and many levels of preparedness. Decide up front to what extent you will be involved.

  • Need to add a free space for “time travel”, it’s where you look at the clock and it’s 9:13a and then minutes later when you look again it’s 2a the next morning
