  • That seems like it could actually be workable, if they also deployed from a sub (or ship?) instead of making the whole crossing themselves! Really goofy though, I can see a few other problems with that too

  • He has a pattern of making statements like these as test balloons, to gauge public sentiment. Sometimes he'll back off if the backlash is big enough, thinking it makes him look magnanimous or something to not commit atrocities after all.

  • They do have something special that the rest of us don't have. They have money.

    That's what I mean when I say they have room to try again. They don't go broke when their business fails, so they can try more than once. Most of us don't have the time or resources to have another go without some serious recovery time.

  • Great! Most new businesses fail, which makes sense given the people starting them are new at this. Billionaires often have had several failed attempts. The difference is, they have room to fail and try again.

    How do we give others that chance, if not by keeping billionaires from hoovering up all the resources?

  • What billionaire didn't start out with a healthy infusion of cash? Sure, some turned millions into billions, but I don't know of any that didn't start with a line on several millions of investment available.

  • "And his friends" is the crucial part here. The reason this didn't happen in his first term was a massive amount of institutional pushback. GOP spent the intervening time clearing out those pesky roadblocks, and figured out where they wanted Trump aimed.

  • See some still in Kansas. My grandparents in Wichita used to have tons of them about 35 years ago; not as many now. Right time of year you'll still generally see 2-5 at a time in our yard.
