  • This guy’s taking a screenshot of a thread on r/HomeAssistant looking for advice on how to reverse proxy multiple services at their gateway router so they can access their self-hosted HomeAssistant and NextCloud from different subdomains at the same IP address.

Pretty sure they’re a technical user.

But yeah in general it sucks but I’d consider Reddit a dead resource at this point. But, if you do find content there that is useful, REPOST IT HERE. Let’s make this place useful for nontechnical users!

  • It makes sure you’re running an approved browser with an approved OS on approved hardware and Google controls it all.

Basically, say goodbye to Adblock, video downloaders, startup search engines, accessibility tools, and Linux.

  • And who’s logo, which predates Twitters, is strikingly similar.

  • If no one on that instance subscribed to a community, doesn’t it not show up in your all feed? Maybe just no one on that instance subscribes to any explodingheads communities.

  • Also close enough to the Xorg logo to be trademark infringement

  • This, and after a while I notice I’m getting weird blank spaces in my feed too.

  • Brave is littered with crypto and replaces other ad networks with their own (which does tracking basically exclusively for them).

    Steer clear, it’s a trap.

  • Be interesting to see how LTT responds to this. Their whole online store is powered by Shopify.

  • Anyone who doesn’t believe Elon is taking Twitter on purpose is a fucking moron.

  • Musk's new idea

  • Yeah? Then why didn’t all the engineers decry him right then and there? Didn’t see much talk calling him out. Ya’ll just let that shit ride? Especially seeing the popularity he was building?

  • You don’t think it takes a fucking idiot to be forced into spending 44 billion dollars, some of it other people’s money, to purposely destroy a social media platform because you (and the people who’s money you used) were upset how critical said platform was of you?

  • It makes the games available for a platform they weren’t previously. People who have never played them before can now do so, and people who really liked them can buy them again if they feel like the price is worth it.

The problem with Nintendo is we keep giving them money and then complaining about it.

  • Reasonable tuition would also be a good start.

Also, college is no longer needed for IT, we can start to treat it like a trade. "Computer Scientist" and "Information Technologist" are very clearly different things now that computers are such a commonplace thing.

  • I forgot my password to a local government site once and they emailed me my plaintext password. Wtf.

  • No you were clear. You are just incorrect. Your “private messages” can be accessed by anyone who works at the site, and are typically scanned for analysis and that data about what you discuss is sold to market researchers.

So they named them direct messages so they couldn’t be accused of false advertisement.

Just because they’re not “public” doesn’t mean they’re “private”.

  • Since the late 90s, school admins have become increasingly “police state light”; multiple vice principals with walkie-talkies, metal detectors, 3 hour after school detention, saturday detention, in-school suspension (you go sit in a room in silence for literally the entire school day), and zero tolerance. Imagine getting punched in the face and THEN being expelled for it. And I’m not even talking about “rough inner-city schools” or whatever; this shit happened in the Berkshires.

Of course, all their security theatre commands a budget increase and attempts to instill a sense of fear of the state into students.

We’re worried about school board meetings being taken over now but the administrations went full right wing fascist 30 years ago.

  • That TikTok trend where people act as “NPCs” and just respond to the donation video filters with the same line over and over again are gonna get wild when someone sets up a vtuber to do it and then uses AI for their own voice and for random inperfections to convince people it’s still a real person behind it. Will just print money for them while they’re off doing whatever.
