Ive spent hella time watching garbage I wouldve never bought but watched it because it was free, wont get that time back lol, many games ill never play because I pirated them and didnt even try them, but that just made them feel like they could be played whenever, and since the only cost was the time it took to downlaod/install I was never rushing to open them

Pirscy has its negatives, anything ive spent money on ive been compelled to use, piracy ill build up a library of barely touched software, doing myself a disservice not learning/using them, but they feel less imporrtant if they can be gotten free, only really applies to the initial learning phase but most stuff I pirate I dont get past that phase

I think lemmy pirates are more tv show, game movie, etc. pirates rather than software pirates, We consume content here not make it.

They apparently like ai, I thought pirates were more artistic, like pirating software for making art is so popular and why i first forayed into piracy as a kid (adobe flash, photoshop, etc.) , but we also take the easy way so ai being liked here makes sense lol

and youtube got big hosting everything, they took years to take down hella anime, movies, etc.

Its actually a lot if they actively post and comment, or even if they actively upvote, we dont get that many upvotes in general for the top posts, even 100 would be a huge boost

beauty of lemmy is they only banned the community so at least ppl can tell you where to go and how to access it

some sort of retry option for the verifcation question might be helpful

First time I made an account I fd up the verification question (didnt even look), took me months to make an account again because I was annoyed I couldnt have that username on that instance because I did It wrong.

leaving reddit led me to some forums that are still active for niche stuff like steakunderwater, lowendtalk, etc. I kind of got used to never leaving that app for anything, didn't realise how bad the shills were and I just assumed the advice was good like it was a decade ago.

The advice these days is not great, I don't think most people active there know what they're talking about and just answer to answer.

its a solid size, on reddit there are so many rules and it feels like screaming into a void when no one comments or views your post lol, it was only good for niche stuff, but lemmys cool because niche stuff hits the front page and everyone commenting tends to be helpful or at least they are not actively trying to be negative/unhelpful.

What also bugged me was some subs would delete your post if it was about like a new game so their mods could post it, everyone was so extra about karma that theyd delete ppls posts to post them themselves lol.

thats how normal social media already is, the algorithim keeps you in a bubble at least here we decide the bubble conciously, algorithims favor controversy and rollercoasters of emotion too

no only those communities, you can still interact with dbzer0 users, just not the piracy communities

I like fedizen too, and threadiverse for lemmy,mbin,piefed, etc. (or when accessing the threadiverse through friendica, hubzilla, etc.)
