  • That's true and I appreciate that different opinions are often unwelcome, I'd still rather that than end up in an extremely boring echo chamber where the "conversation" is not much more than a circle jerk.

  • Well if this person truly believes it wasn't a Nazi salute, then he's not lying.

I believe ghosts aren't real, but that doesn't mean I think anyone that has seen a ghost is lying, I truly believe that they think they saw a ghost.

There's a huge difference between an objective truth and a widely agreed upon opinion.

  • Free speech means having to read and hear things you don't like or disagree with every now and again. I personally think bans should be restricted to hate speech or else we'll sleep walk in to an echo chamber.

  • The moderate right provide a platform for the far right but I don't think that makes them default Nazi's.

Besides that, I'm not suggesting that you can always deprogram a Nazi, but you can absolutely target the moderate right swing voters who may not take kindly to being called a Nazi.

Honestly, your point of view is no better than the "all Muslims are terrorists" mantra and people like you will sleep walk us in to another four years of Republican rule.

  • Great comment. Trump won and the amount of people here throwing the Nazi word around still don't realise how self defeating they are.

You can't tell someone their an idiot or evil and then expect them to try seeing things your way, you're much more likely to end up entrenching their beliefs. The goal should be to win them over, that won't be accomplished by telling them how wrong and stupid they are.

Engage, don't alienate, no matter how hard that feels at times.

  • I'd be getting bored if it was an echo chamber of any flavour.

As I've said in other comments, I'm here to learn and part of that means exposing myself to people that do not think alike to me. I'm not hear to circle jerk about how right we are, maybe that was fun the first few thousand times, it's just boring now.

Ideally I'd like to get involved with a broad spectrum of people that somewhat represent the society that we live in.

Maybe I should just get offline and go to the pub.

  • It's extremely big headed to think that only the people who agree with you are arguing honestly and have not based their arguments on any incorrect information.

I'm here to learn and grow, not to circle jerk with my friends about how right we are.

  • In the UK there is some similarity between liberal and left wing ideas, despite them being distinct political groups. Liberalism was originally seen as very left wing, a lot of people are now arguing that there is more in common with right wing politics, small state and such.

I'd say my experience here has been much more left wing than liberal though, just my opinion.

  • This is kind of the derision that I'm talking about. (I am assuming that you are talking about the right wing). Whilst there is some truth to it, you disagreeing with them or their arguments doesn't mean that it isn't interesting, or worthy of discussion or debate.

I do agree that hate speech should be banned and that isn't what I'm interested in.

I'm not interested in the MAGA point of view per se, I'm interested in a diverse spectrum of ideas and opinions that reflect a real cross section of society, where undoubtedly some of them will be MAGA people. Whereas there is a very strong left leaning bias here.

  • The redness in your cheeks when cold is due to increased blood flow trying to keep your skin warm, I take it that they return to normal when you warm up? I don't think a specific moisturizer can really help with this.

You could try a balaclava if your red cheeks are really bothering you.

  • Wow, that's quite something! You may have possibly noticed other benefits though? Maybe being less short of breath, your back is less sore, maybe a lower blood pressure or cholesterol at a medical? There's many things you can notice other than your appearance in a mirror.

40lbs is a great achievement and I hope you didn't find it to be an absolutely pointless exercise.
