  • This is exactly right but assumes the nature of the internet must remain the same. The problem is the content and people wanting your sweet little attention. The internet described in the article - the blogosphere and Usenet and the rest, was an internet created by people for people and existed for its own sake. What google has access to now is 3 billion people all trying to scam the others for money. Its a fundamentally different user base and there's no way a better algorithm can find content that isn't there

  • Organized religion and their tools and symbols of opressiin have no place in modern society. The enlightenment is 300 years old now and we still have whackos like all the Americans in this thread talking about "religion is freedom". Its not freedom, its a fucking lie and it exists to control and oppress.

Vive La France, bring on more of this

To paraphrase: humanity be free when the last stone of the last church falls upon the last priest.

  • Australian here. Don't know of anyone who uses WhatsApp. Different organizations and demographics uses a range of different platforms like Facebook messenger, MS Teams, Slack, Discord etc. From my perspective those are all about the same level.

At least most official comms either government or business is SMS, phone, or email.

Happy for other Aussies to correct me of course, thsrs just my quick perspective

  • I had a look at this a few weeks ago and loved some of the features. Having no option to keep data local or any simple cross platform backup (even if those will be implemented later) turned me off a bit. Having sync from PC to phone was great, although it relies on either thier cloud system or doing a bunch of tech setup I'm not good enough to handle. Overall good concept but a lot of things made me uncomfortable.

I then found Obsidian which is similar but seems to have a bunch of better features, and is all stored locally in standard formats. 10/10 If you like the look of any type chack out obsidian

  • Not trying to start an argument, just curious on your perspective. What makes gnome seem like windows? I really can't see it myself. For me KDE Neon feels pretty much the same as windows 10 but with more control and customization. Gnome feels kinda more like Android - everything hidden and big ol icons and doesn't use the whole nested window configuration system

  • Running in the bush, I put my foot straight in a wombat hole. A wombat hole is about 2 feet across so I ended up feet first, chest deep in the hole. My bug toe landed first and shattered in 7 pieces. Sprained my ankle on the other foot too so it was a super fun walk home!

  • Like literally any respiratory disease as well as all the other bacteria and viruses that spew forth from your mouth every time you open it to make vapid uninformed comments.

We've been using masks for this purpose since 1899, not 2019.

You live in a society that provides you with a whole fuckton of advantages and you are responsible for the wellbeing of the people in that society. I know your head is warm and comfortable up there but get it out of your arse mate

  • Yel that's exactly what they do. I've asked around, and at a guess, half the people I know only have a phone. Whole families just using a phone each to look at YouTube and tiktok, do banking talk to friends on WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook. They watch tv, play sport, go out socialising, shopping, etc. They honestly have no use for a PC at all

A huge percentage of people don't use a computer at work either.

Its easy to get lost in tech, but in reality the vast majority of people in this world just have no use for desktops or laptops.

  • Yeah I'm contributing too. Time to rebuild this shitshow into the internet we should have built in the first place. I'm totally done with corporations controlling our communities. Power to the people baby. The last step is community controlled data centres so we can run this sort of cloud hosted service in a totally free environment.
