  • That's not the same as recording the call. Once the call is transferred, it is expected for the bot to stop listening, unless it state that it's part of the call (which it doesn't).

  • Who? Google? Google won't even get slapped on the wrists. I'm talking about the users using this (unwittingly or otherwise, the law doesn't care). Even if they don't care about the privacy implications nor the abuse of the tech, they are opening themselves up for some serious liabilities.

    Edit: mistype

  • In some countries and, (if not mistaken) states in USA, if an AI is listening to a conversation, both parties must be made aware. If they don't notify the other end, they'll be violating regulations. Privacy erosion and manipulation likelihood aside, this is a terrible idea.

  • Ah. Yes. All very good points. My current phone is slightly better than its specs, too, but I also paid more for my phone that Brax's current asking price. Personally, those specs are a sweet spot for a replacement phone at a cheap (ish) phone, when you consider its privacy preserving implications and the fact that other phone with a similar goal go for a much, much higher asking price.

I'm with you, though. I'm not going to change out my current phone with this one, but I'm also not going to dismiss it as a viable option for the masses.

  • the text on the tab is ANIMATED

I hate that this is not used more. This is dope!!

  • Don't take this the wrong way, but fuck your business model. The internet was supposed to be open and be ours, and you stole it for profit.

  • Between 2014-2024, Apple posted $1,316B (rounded) in profits. The $95M settlement is 0.0072% of their total profits for the years in question (0.053% profits of 2024 alone). This is barely a slap. It's not even purchase tax. It's a rounding error.

    ...

My advice is worth every penny you paid for it!

    Lolololololol

  • I'm on year 6 with a pair I got from ZenniOptical. I'd say they're a good source.

  • Yes, I'm aware they're real humans, but blasting someone, who specifically requests not to be blasted, with 10 texts a day, is emotional and mental abuse, and the human doing this is not a person a would ever respect (while I wish them no harm). I see these organizations only a couple notches above those asshole scammers. And it's because they're real humans that the berating actually works.

Also, I should clarify what I mean as 'berating' in this context: a simple "fuck off" or "who the fuck are you and why the fuck are you texting me?!". I do not mean that you should go calling them slurs or the like. Don't insult the person, only be extremely hostile in your response.

  • Berate them with "foul language". Depending on the country, they will mark your number as hostile, and it will be removed from their contact list. Since they share lists, this will propagate to other lists, as well.

  • Later last year, I did notice an uptick in Lemmy hostility, across the board. It's calmed down significantly, though, around January of this year or so. Now, I don't know about the instances that my home instance blocks (hexbear being among them, thankfully). I've generally had good experiences with infosec users in the past, which is why I moved instances to here. Sorry that hasn't been your experience; people can be assholes.

  • Infosec, really? I haven't noticed that trend. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention to the user's instance enough. I absolutely did notice the others you mentioned, though, but that may be because there are more bad eggs than good in those places lol
