Hooray good potato cake.

So they've lowered their prices to $2 but I'll completely understand if they're up at $2.50 again come summer.

Here's what being raised by awful parents does. They make every feeling, every trait, everything you do seen thru a lens of negativity. They never once encouraged me or gave praise or showed interest. I had to do everything on my own and that is how I became.

I say this as I just today reframed how I think , and thus feel about something.

So Mr Seagoon is a pretty interesting man. 💗 He does some pretty cool stuff , the sweetest thing is he writes cute stories , and they are good too. I love them.

And I am so into what he writes and him. Negative me was telling myself I let myself be distracted from doing things myself, I go down rabbit holes. ( Which I would then feel guilty )

Positive me tells me he inspires me . 💗

That's not to say I don't enjoy his work or the rabbit holes. I Do. No more feeling bad or guilty. Only happiness.

Finally moved into my house and finally got to cook in a kitchen for the first time in 2 years. I made a honey chicken stir fry with brown rice and added some jalapeno sauce to the marinade. Delicious!

Now I need some quick and easy and healthy ideas for tonight...suggestions?

Bangers and mash accompanied with steamed veg and gravy.
omelettes made with egg and bottled dorito tomato salsa , 1 tbsp salsa for every gg
rice with cumin and salsa mixed thru
sausages, cook them by baking in the oven, throw in some spuds and vegies to bake at the same time
- I have no idea how many sausages I've cooked in my life. It must over 1,000.
  I have never thought to cook them in the oven. Always on the BBQ or in a frying pan. How long do they take? We're talking over an hour if you're cooking them with spuds, yeah?
Anchovies, broccoli, capers, tin of tuna, pasta, parmesan.
Cook pasta. Heat pan, dissolve anchovies in their own oil in the pan, add capers for a bit, add broccoli, stir fry till cooked, add tuna, stir through till heated. Mix through pasta, add parmesan.

Had this sudden feeling that I need to go home and see my family. Asked boss if I could work remotely (from another country) and she's all for it. Need to get approval from HR before I can work remotely now. 🤞

🤞if I have learnt one lesson the hard way in my life its to just go. Don't overthink it. Go have family time.

I want to go to bed, but have a cat on my lap. She is purring.

Edit: I am now free, Miss Meow headed off to her own bed. It would be funny if she was sitting there thinking "I really want to head to bed, but my human has provided this lap and I don't want her to think I don't appreciate it. Guess I'm stuck here until she goes to bed."

I managed 5.3k this morning. Coming down my block, doggo sees a cat in a front yard, pulls on lead. This causes me to miss a lifted section footpath and trip....cue me, desperately trying to not fall flat on my face running cartoon style with doggo chasing cat.... Managed to dodge the ground after about 10 or so momentum filled close calls, stand up, get doggo back (still on lead) - and of course from across the street a tradie starts chuckling and saying jeez that was real close there bud, you nearly bought the farm for about 15m...me, huffing and puffing, and adrenaline pumping can only manage to half yell CAT..... Then the old man back kicked in, and I limped off. Good times.

I can picture the carton near perfectly.

Can someone eli5 who she is and what the go with the mushrooms is? I vaguely remember seeing an article about it when it happened but it didn't seem that important to me. But everyone is going wild over it, so now I'm wondering what I've missed?
- A lady named Erin Patterson had some people over for lunch and she cooked them a beef Wellington (kind of like a large sausage roll) that had mushrooms in it. 3 out of 4 guests died due to death cap mushrooms. She has been arrested today.

Shout out to my dog, who I growled at last night for not being on his bed. This was his response.

Oof I must be tired.. I almost fell for a phishing email this morning. No danger of me clicking the links in it (I can never be THAT tired) but I almost called the bank to complain they're still asking me to confirm my details when I've already done it - which was an actual thing the bank did recently via their app - hence the fooling.

Went back to look at the email and noticed that 1) it actually came from some random onmicrosoft account address and 2) it arrived in the 1 of my 3 email addresses which isn't registered with the bank lol

Stay vigilant, folks. And obviously never ever click links from emails unless you are expecting that email.

Well, check out that weather forecast. 18 today, 30-32 when I get back! I was worried I'd struggle with the weather when I return but maybe not ..

The house we moved into a few months back still had the original (low quality) oven, it's about 17 years old and inefficient AF. Ordered a new Bosch unit on Tuesday and it's being installed this afternoon. whoohoo! Next up will be replacing the gas hob with induction but I don't know anything about those so will have a chat with the oven installer. Does anyone here have induction?

We want induction too... Got the pans already, my partner discovered Solidteknics. They are brilliant.

I've been using a portable induction plate instead of my gas for a while now. It's really nice to use, and creates noticibly less heat around the pot, which is going to be very nice over summer.
I did have a few issues with using my cast iron frypan initially, as it would get too hot and the stove would shut down. I've put a silicone mat on the stove that goes under the pan which solved that problem, as well as protecting the stove from scratches.
I am going to look in to getting a couple of commercial portable burners instead of a full stovetop, as I do like the flexibility of being able to move everything around (plus a breakdown will only effect one burner, not everything).
- I’ve been considering buying one of these too. What brand do you have, are you happy with it? I was thinking it would be useful if cooking messy stuff I could do it outside, and not have splatters all over the stove to clean up.
I have a portable induction cooktop,sourced from Temple & Webster, which someone in my fam gave me last xmas. I've used it a bit, and find it interesting. The trouble is a lot of my cookware doesn't work on it. Also, I find any cooking appliance with pre-set buttons is a bit of a pain. I would rather have the ability to choose the temperature and cooking time for myself, as the preset buttons are never useful for their stated purpose. On this cooktop the preset buttons all do wildly different things - I ended up using the steak button to cook rice, and the quickboil button to do steak. Which is sorta defeats the purpose of having the named buttons. I think they expect ALL customers will have their steak done in exactly the same fashion with no ability to choose a different way. And I like steak done slowly after the initial sear - juicier and tenderer and harder to stuff up imo. I'd get an induction if I was doing a new set up, but at present I feel no urgency to change over my existing arrangements. If I have any advice, it would be to avoid getting an induction hob with preset buttons.

I’ve had every type of cooktop. Currently have a Bosch induction. The only advantages I can see is cost saving, ease of cleaning, and that bitch heats very quickly. Boils water faster than a kettle ( there’s a “turbo” function)
I would still rather have a gas cooktop though just because I feel like I have to tiptoe and not scratch or break the glass. I like using cast iron and it’s not ideal for that.
Anyway the Bosch is five years old and no issues thus far.
- I use a silicone mat on mine, which both protects against scratches and stops the stove overheating when I use cast iron. You can get sheets that cover the whole cooktop if you want, or just single burners (or whatever the induction equivilent of a burner is).
I'm very interested in this because my gas stove top will need to be replaced at some stage. I'm going to buy a portable and test it out.
