Bill and Ted update.

Bill Cat wakes up in the morning, slowly yawns, stretches, scratches his ear, licks his tummy, stretches again, stumbles a few feet away, stretches and yawns again. Blinks in the bright sunlight.

Ted Cat. Runs up and down the stairs, checks every single food bowl, vacuums any scraps that may have been left over after dinner, then asks "What's for breakfast" before running up and down stairs again.

I call my dog Bubba guts. I don't know why it just seems to suit him. Maybe that's a good nick name for Ted too.

Where I work is a large rectangular room. It's me and 2 others. The other 2 aren't here at the moment.

I sit at the far end, behind me is a wall and behind that are 5 doors - 3 go to toilets, 1 to a meeting room and 1 to a cupboard. There are 2 ways into this office, the front door which leads outside and to the side of it is a door leading upstairs. Both are in front of me.

So, I'm sitting here, on my own when some lady walks in. I've never seen her before. But she has a work badge on. She says hello and then disappears into the area behind me where the toilets are.

That was 20 minutes ago.

After about 10 minutes I realised I hadn't seen her leave or heard any noises and start wondering if I imagined it or what. So I take a look into the hallway. The office is empty. 2 of the three toilet doors are open, no lights on. The cupboard is the cupboard. No way she's in there. Only place to be is the last door leading to the toilet. But the lights are off so either doing a very peaceful poop or she's not there.

Also the fans are randomly going off.

So weird.

Still amuses me when looking after hambam the border collie, taking it for a walk at the local park, bunch of kids were trodding through garden beds when the fun mushies were going. I explained to them good luck the council had just sprayed glyphosate over the entire area literally a few days prior and their best bet was to try the lower area where they hadn't sprayed and was more damp.
They had the GALL to question my mispent youth and left empty handed.

I kind of think 2007's era disney sucks, due to the fact that it relied heavily on musical related movies.

Same. There’s something a bit too preachy about them, and I think the songs are mostly bland. I guess the point of them is to be easy for kids and to convey a moral of the story, but I prefer the older style Pixar’s. They have a way more fun and sass in them.

Not sure what industry you are in, but the grad role market might pick up in the new year when companies look to hire. However, your priority should be your own welfare and if that means taking a job not in your field so you have income, then do that. I’ve known grads that have had unrelated jobs initially but gone on to find work in their chosen fields, as long as it’s not too long between graduating and grad role.

Someone motivate me to continue painting. Please. I want to but I don't want to set it all up. Haha.

I feel you. It might not be your cup of tea - but if you get Procreate Pocket or an android alternative you can get ideas down on your phone without having to set up or pack anything away.

Also, as a veteran of weird dreams, I didn’t think they could be at any weirder, but somehow they have… Annoyingly they seem to be more stressful. I am not quite sure why this is.

I don't think I slept too badly last night but was still crazy tired today. Some of the dreams I've had lately though.. bonkers.
The nice thing about wfh was since my sleep was farked anyway, i kicked on the servers at bumfuck o'clock and that meant i got to fuck off at 2 XD
Sometimes stressful dreams help me work out stressful problems, or at least condition my limbic system to take stress in waking life in my stride a little more. Still a pain in the arse tho lol

Daylight Savings is so contentious. My partner is from Perth, where they trialled it for 3 years before reverting, and he is so vehemently against it it makes me cackle.

I don't mind it personally; I like the extra light in the evening and as an early riser it's usually dark when I get up so that doesn't bother me. But I wish they wouldn't do it the weekend the kids go back to school. "Yay here ya go, enjoy that extra daylight not during the holidays! Oh, you want to spend more holiday time with your kids in the sun? Bwahaha! Fool!"
I like it. Counting down to midnight on New Years Eve seems ridiculous though.
Am from QLD and even after being here 10yrs+ I am still not completely sold on it.

I saw a tiktok explaining that there are a lot of venomous snakes out in unprecedented numbers for this time of year (because of the heat) and that 9 dogs in Geelong and the surrounding area were bitten by venomous snakes in one day. So can the dog owners of this wonderful thread please be super vigilant and keep your precious babies safe.

Edit: just to add, this is not to villainise snakes but to warn people to keep their dogs close and on leads so they don't make snakes feel threatened. There is a training program you can enrol dogs in that teaches them to keep away from snakes. It's called Snake avoidance training.

Red bellied black snakes are fairly placid. They are not rare either. They hang around watercourses and swamps/wetlands and you can walk right by them and they don't so much as wriggle. I have been riding a horse that stepped right over one on a bush path and neither horse nor snake even twitched. Keeping your dogs out of creeks and swamps, and wearing stout shoes around bushland would be more than sufficient to keep them safe (the dogs as well). Even keeping your dogs leashed would work to prevent the dogs from chasing or harassing the snakes which is when a dog is most likely to be bitten. There is a very effective anti-venom serum that most vets keep on hand too. I would like to know where they got the number of dogs bitten from. This sounds like a tiktok scare campaign more than real information.
- It didn't give the vibe of a scare campaign as she and others (in the comments) were warning dog owners to look at getting Snake Avoidance training and to keep their dogs on leads etc and to just be vigilant and aware when out with their dogs she was just warning that there are more around then usual for this time of year because of the heat. As for the red bellied black snake thing, that was clearly a bit of misinformation and I'll edit it out.
- Had the same experience with horses and snakes. Snake didn’t even move and my horse nearly stepped on it. I’ve nearly stepped on so many snakes. Usually see many of them each year. Worried about my dog though. Everything goes in his mouth or gets chased.

  I think snakes get an unfortunate bad rep. Far more scared of us (and dogs) than we should be of them.
Snakes of all species will generally try to avoid conflict and generally flee when they sense the vibrations of something larger coming towards them. To snakes, dogs are potential predators and snakes will engage in a number of threat displays to scare a potential predator off before resorting to biting. If the dog ignores those threat displays it is will sadly get bit.
People need to be more responsible for their pets and keep them supervised. It's not like snakes are intentionally seeking out dogs to bite. That tiktok is blatant fearmongering and all it is going to do is villainise snakes and encourage people to harm them.
- In fairness she was just telling people to be more aware as her dog had been bitten and she was upset, she told people to keep away from snakes and to be vigilant. She was just letting them know there are more around then usual and her vet had told her the same thing.

And I've just given Jeff Bezos money because I need a foldable chair for PAX (and well for whenever I'm walking somewhere and there aren't any seats) and they have some that are available before PAX and are decently priced (I could buy a similar one from Kmart for cheaper but it's not available anywhere near me sadly).

You didn't ask but if it's any use to you there are also walking canes with an inbuilt seat. This makes the cane a little bulkier than normal despite the seat folding in, and the seat isn't large. So it might not be great for extended sitting. But in some tight situations (like crowds) it's lighter and more portable than a chair
- I've never heard of that, looking up photos it looks sick! Though sadly I'm a bit over the weight limit. The seat I got from Amazon is circular and folds up nicely, it even has a strap so I can sling it on my arm.
  If I didn't have a lot of internalised ableism, I would go for one of those like walkers that you can use as a seat as well. But yeah, the internalised ableism is strong within me.

Ants were swarming in the kitchen last night and got into my cat’s bowl. I had to throw out a bowl of expensive kibble and couldn’t find the bottle of Ant Rid. Of course I notice it’s gone after sending the Bunnings order.

In the meantime I cleaned up the ants in the food area, fired off a Coles order and moved a borax and icing sugar bait to the spot where they were coming in. That was a diy cockroach bait courtesy of Smeg but curious to see if it works at all. Maybe they’d be more enticed by borax in honey.

Then I put the fresh biscuits in a small heavy ramekin with tall sides, and sat it in a wide low saucer bowl of water creating a moat. (Normal bowls floated and wobbled sideways creating a point of contact. Biccies weren’t heavy enough alone.) Adding one drop of unscented dish soap to the water was hopefully enough to cut the surface tension so they can’t just walk over the ‘skin’ of the water like some insects can.

I hope kittenface doesn’t drink the soapy liquid. I hate ants.

I’ve also been seeing fruit flies. Time to put diluted apple cider vinegar in an empty bottle with a drop or two of dish soap. And either leave baking soda sitting in the drain overnight chased by a kettle of boiling water, or use actual drain cleaner.

Looks like the rain-free morning that was predicted has not eventuated. On the positive side, it looks like a sunny weekend ahead, which will make a lot of people happy.
