I truly don't understand why "Reply All" is so maligned. In my career, 99% of the time where replying was necessary, "Reply All" was the correct option to ensure all others on the chain remained informed. In fact, it was worse when others on the chain did NOT use "Reply All" either leaving me completely off or breaking the chain for others that needed to remain informed.
Having worked in two different global corporations with email lists numbering in the thousands of members, well…
Let’s say it did provide occasional comic relief as various vice presidents would reply to the reply-alls in an attempt to get the cascade of (often intentionally) idiotic replies to stop.
Good times.
Oh god. It starts with the single word replies “Unsubscribe.” And I cann’t tell if those people are being trolls or just incredibly stupid. Then someone else will attempt to correct them about how email etiquette works (and I can’t tell if that person is being sarcastic or just stupid.)
But I’ve seen those chains gone on for like 50 replies over an afternoon. So much facepalm.
If you send an email that says "Do not reply all" to 200,000 people, its your own damn fault
If it's an organization-wide email group address that you've been added to, instead of reply-all, you can be extra chaotic by adding that group address as a BCC.
Then just say something stupid like "could you please remove me from this group" so it doesn't look like you know what you're doing.
It'll spam the entire group, AND break any filters people have set up to delete/move/mark traffic hitting their inbox from that conversation.
This is why my work mailbox has a 2 minute delay before sending. Don't leave these things to chance
Semi-related: Nordic winter is an exceptional atmospheric black metal band. They use this image on one of their albums as a cover.
Highly recommend checking them out.
What is the context of the original picture? Seems like something along the lines of "husband lost at sea? "
counterpoint, if that email was problematic with reply all, should have been privately chatted instead. replyall should be the default options because the amount of times in a single chain that i had to answer with something asinine (including xyz again so they can give feedback about it) just to include everyone again... way too many.
