Carney tells Trump: Canada 'won't be for sale ever'

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told Donald Trump on Tuesday that his country will never be for sale, shutting down the U.S. president’s repeated calls to make Canada the 51st state.

“There are some places that are never for sale,” Carney said in the Oval Office.

Canada is “not for sale” and “won’t be for sale ever,” the prime minister said.

Trump replied: “Never say never.”

Carney also called him a "transformational president" who "revitalized international security" and Trump nodded "it's true!" because he's too stupid to realize it wasn't a compliment.
- Carney used "tranformational" twice, then Trump tried to use it but lost his train of thought.

- I was listening to a Jim Gaffigan bit he wrote during the first Trump admin which is even more true these days. Short version, he compares having Trump as President to having a parent who's a raging alcoholic: what he does isn't directly your fault but you still know you should apologize.
- I know it's going to suck for a lot of people, but I hope that nobody buckles under Trump's trade war pressure. Let the shitty Trump tariffs be the torch that lights the funeral pyre that is the husk of what used to be the United States.
  Trump is just a symptom. He could get drone-bombed tomorrow and nothing would change. The people who were complicit in him regaining power must be severely punished, or else they will simply fall in lockstep with the next Republican stooge, and the only way to properly punish them is to inflict the maximum amount of suffering directly to them. Economic suffering is the bloodless route, and one that will be very effective in breaking the spell of propaganda.

What would it even mean to “sell” Canada? Whatever deal they make, the US could just back out of once Canada became a state, and Canada wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. It’s a non-sensical idea.
Selling territories makes sense, but selling your own sovereignty does not.

each province becomes a state.
more representatives get added to accommodate the additional states.
French remains an official/supported language.

5 years of no income tax for formerly Canadian citizens.

The point is Canada making this offer makes Trump is the one that has to turn it down or lose everything, Canada would fundamentally change the us as 10 more states.

  it’s a stalling tactic… they’ll never agree to any of that but trump, being as downright arrogant as he is, assumes that it’s a starting position for a deal (“who wouldn’t want to join the USA?!?!”)… he’s a strongman, so he will try and get what he wants no matter what - the goal is to put him off from taking it by force for as long as possible or indefinitely
