With all due respect to The Independent, it's only a "total fail" if it costs him votes. And Trump voters don't read The Independent. Trump voters think they owned the libs with that one.
According to r/conservative Biden called Trump's supporters garbage, so Trump dressed as a garbage man to show solidarity and support for his supporters. Ro ahow he's with them.
Which makes sense.
But to those who only get the left media it went like this: Comedian called Puerto Rico a floating pile of garbage - so Trump dressed as a garbage man.
That doesn't make sense.
So there's a reason Trump is currently ahead on the average of the polls. Because what he does, works... Which is incredibly good news for Republicans, and bad news for anyone else.

I touched on it in my comment, it is definitely an attention grabber, and for Trump any coverage is good coverage. It's still difficult for me to see how Puerto Ricans are supposed to believe Trump saying "I love Puerto Rico I'll take care of Puerto Rico, I've never even heard of this comedian who led my set", while sitting in shotgun of a garbage truck...
He doesn't gain much from pandering to his own supporters. There are still some people that are on the fence, not many, but a few. People that do believe in regulation cutting but also think the President should be a role model. This will probably tip a very small number of them, which matters in a close race.
American voting game is one of turnout.
For Republicans, they are in the minority. But their will to vote is much higher. Pandering to his own supporters encourages the get out the vote effort in ways that Democrats are simply unable to do.
Trump voters just need to be told they owned the libs to think they owned the libs. Their entire worldview is actively created on a daily basis by their political idols, and the media puppets that represent them.
My local news presented it entirely as a "Biden said garbage", and then played short clip of Harris disowning Biden.

There was actually one time when Obama decided "fuck it" and start driving around the white house, like not even anything crazy and just driving around on the driveway, and the secret service rushed to close the gates so he couldn't get out. He said "That was my big joy ride. Three times around the South Lawn driveway. It was wild." If you've ever seen the Obamas driving around, I bet you he was not the one driving.
What Trump does at this point doesn't matter. His cult is way too far up his anus to care. I think he could literally walk out in drag, shoot someone point blank, holding Ivanka's sonogram of her abortion, and wrap himself in a Russian flag and his supporters would come up with a story about how it's the most American thing ever.
I mean, this happened. It was Rudy in drag, though.
With all the panic over drag we've been going through, it mystifies me that both Trump and Giuliani are still relevant to those people.

I definitely thought it was weird that a lot of people were specifically blaming the comedian for the PR jokes. Like, yes, the jokes came out of his mouth, but they were laser targeted at his audience.
Glad to see Trump once again clearing up the confusion about who's the main villain.

For a guy who's in real estate, he sure allows a lot of people to stay rent-free in his head. Kamala, Barack, Nancy, Joe, Jimmy, Stephen, ... no wonder his businesses go bankrupt so often.
