My guess is licking is just tightly wired to the feeling of getting brushed, as they use their tongue to brush themselves.

My aunt has a ragdoll. She constantly brings her comb to people and stands with her chin raised and eyes closed, ready for them to comb her. Gets very annoyed if they don't.
I initially read this as a toy ragdoll, and your aunt bringing the toy doll and a comb and silently demanding people to comb the hair on the doll.

I read it as the aunt carrying the comb and asking for a brush
Obviously the toy ragdoll brings the brush to guests & demands brushies.
