It's bin day and we're waiting for the pick up. Elderly neighbour was out and on his way back home reversed into his bins, knocking them over and spilling a bit of crap on the nature strip and footpath.

Did he notice? Absolutely not.

Did he go out and pick it up? No chance.

Did I do the right thing, rush out and tidy up as the rubbish truck was at the top of our street? Yes, but was grumbling the entire time.

My biggest issue was that it took the rubbish truck a few minutes to do it's round. Not long enough for me to back inside, but just too long to stand outside waiting andlooking like an impatient resident that is totally judging the truck driver's performance.

- Good idea with the letter. Hitting the bins wasn't my main concert. Shit happens at slow speed. Not noticing that he did it was the alarm bells.
I can relate to this.
Sometimes my back is so sore I can't bend over to pick things up. I just look at them. If it's at home I wait until I can pick it up but somewhere else, I will try my best but if I can't I can't.

I clean up, whenever I haven't I'm just bothered by litter around my street until the council monthly sweeper comes through.
- I like it when my street is clean. If there's any rubbish around after the truck comes past, I'll pick it up and put in my bin. This was more that neighbours' bins wouldn't have been picked up if knocked over.

Old man just informed me yesterday he has a hereditary gene defect related to PCSK9 or Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 which means high cholesterol or sumfink.

Yesterday a car drove up and back down my court and stopped outside my front gate, would the window down and took a photo (from what I could see). He then realised I was there and left. Not feeling overly safe, didn’t get numberplate so calling cops would be useless?

Not good. Do you have cctv? Might still be worth reporting. The photo (?) sounds like might be casing the joint for robbery of tools/generator/copper piping etc. Which is a thing that's increasing.
Are you friendly with neighbours with security cameras?
- Got them on my camera but just didn’t get the plate (they were trying to stay out of range methinks). Will realign a camera.
Unfortunately even if you did get a plate, the cops can't do much anyways. Unless he was in your driveway or otherwise on your property, it's not illegal to drive down a dead end street. And although creepy, it's not illegal to take photos of people on private property if you're doing so from public property unless they have "a reasonable expectation of privacy", or people's houses
- I get that but the fact that they took off when they saw me - that’s dodgy af. Fortunately my big dog was barking from the house, hopefully a deterrent if it’s casing for a break in.

Monk series last 3 episodes.

Very nice series ender, nice endings for every character, nothing surprising, it all seemed like natural conclusions to stories in the series. Like a short story, you see how the series was just a section of their lives, there was a before and there is an after.

I think the series was about love, grief and friendship.

I do wonder how eccentric special Monk's skills were. Can every viewer figure it out?

I'm still super tired and need to be up early tomorrow to leave early for an appointment and then dinner with a friend.... But I promised I'd bring a plate and I know she's far more tired and cash strapped than me, so I'm summoning all my energy to have a go at this vegan shepherds pie recipe now - to be finished off in the oven at hers tomorrow. It's got rehydrated shiitake, squeezed out jackfruit and coffee (?!). I really wanna see how it turns out, haven't made shepherd's pie in years.

Well, leftover pizza has been had - time to soak and chop and sweat. I can do this!!

I made some Greens packet cheesecake for the kids and whilst I wasn't expecting much, they managed to limbo under my low expectations.

I guess I've never had a cheesecake as fluffy, stiff, and bland as these before to have perspective.

It's not a hard 'don't recommend', more a 'don't bother'. Make cheesecake at home the proper way or buy a good one

god I want that KFC snack pack for lunch, but 6 nugs PLUS popcorn chicken and chips is way too much to tackle solo.

Those are like an appetizer before the family bucket for me.

  Honestly, I feel icky just thinking about KFC food, it's just so greasy.
  Unless you have a specific craving for the greasiest thing imaginable because you're pregnant/emotionally eating/have cramps/have a hangover/are really drunk/are six-years-old, I don't know why anyone would want it?

I actually love it. It's like two portraits in one, a portrait of Britain and all it's blood soaked history and a portrait of Charles, a man living in the now trying to make a new history and his history.

Unbelievably, I made the shepherd's pie! The texture didn't really come out how I thought it would, though I think that's because maybe I used this brand of tinned jackfruit that I honestly never should use again, too much of the tough core and not enough flesh.

However, the umami/flavour is out of this world. Lots of it would be from the tomato paste, dried mushrooms and soy sauce, but I think the coffee definitely added a certain something to it too... must try again with some tweaks.

Maybe I'll make a spag bol sauce on the weekend with the remaining tomato paste and tvp mince, and see if the coffee trick works again 🤔 ☕ 😋

I am so intrigued. I made a cottage pie this week with some chicken and mushrooms as the base and then the usual vegies like carrots and peas and celery. Mashed taters on top of course. I used a vegie stock cube for some gravy.
It's a great hot meal for a cold night. I have mine with melted butter on top of the taters. 🤤😋😋

After a few fallthroughs Melbcat finally got to the vet for her Solensia yesterday - she's having more noticeable side effects this time though.

Last night she pulled a chunk of fur out of her back and was stalking around lashing her tail all wriggly like a snake. Today she's been very sooky and smoochy, initiating and allowing a long session of brushing when normally she gets overstimulated after a few brushstrokes and walks away. (This time I sat to brush my own hair and she rubbed her cheek on my brush until I gave her a very long groom.) There's some squinting like there's pain or she doesn't feel good. She's also thrown up a bit and not finishing all of her food.

Nausea, loss of appetite and skin irritation are on the list of side effects so that's pretty normal. Getting a bit freaked out at Reddit comments claiming that it killed their cat but am just going to keep an eye on her.

I've had my flu shot today so we can cuddle and be wretched together.

In other notes, it seems cats love generic Tangle Teezer style knockoffs. I'll try it again when she's not craving brushies (it's the bean shaped solid plastic kind with no handle, very easy to clean in hot soapy water) and if it's nicer on her skin than the slicker brush it can become hers or I'll buy her her own.

Brushing is so good for cats, all those feel good hormones will help her feel better. so many hugs
- It was amazing, a cat that never lets me brush her was smooching the brush and lay like a tired complacent little potato while I went over her shoulders, head and entire back. I'm hoping she comes good soon.

I saw a kitty litter box with enter and exit doors and I wondered if kitty would care if it accidentally Dutch ovened it self.

Mickey has been snoozing in my oodie, and he doesn't seem to mind huffing his own farts. So prolly not lol

Preeeeeety sure the mrs car needs a new clutch. Pretty sure it needed a new one when we brought it, but SOMEONE (who shall remain nameless) living out his little Evo-driver-fuckboi fantasies in it cant be helping. She's gonna make me pay for this.

How do I be charming when I have no charm? Advice needed several years ago

Charm comes from being your authentic self. Sounds cliche but that whole "you could be the best, most delicious apple, but there will still be people who don't like apples" saying.
Be you, the whole of you. And you will attract and charm those who you like as well.
To be charming I think you need to learn the art of the schmooze. Basically telling people what they want to hear.
HIGHLY contextual on who your trying to charm and for what purpose.

I need to replace some elastic waistbands but I put all that away on a high shelf and stuff on top of it -_-

Edit: I grabbed it down, and I had already done the worst of it for one pair of pants. (The elastic was folded over with the top of the pants and both sewn in together, probably for speed in a factory, meaning I had to unpick the entire waistband the whole way around. I had then handsewed it into a lazy but serviceable casing so the next time I need to replace or adjust the elastic I can undo a few stitches and just pull the old elastic out.)

The new elastic is in that pair now but I haven't sewn the hole up yet. I'm going to wear it around for a little while to be sure it's a comfortable tightness and then close it.

Time to start unpicking the next pair.

Second day of trying to use TOIL. Haha, joke's on me, it never goes according to plan... Buuut can't complain. Mate invited me around after work, fed me and gasbagged. Thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated.

Going to try again tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying (Unnatural) アンナチュラル on NF. It seems a little more progressive that what I'd expect, so I'm finding it lighthearted, maybe a little western, but fun all the same.

A lovely documentary with good dramatic depictions of Neanderthals and Neanderthal life and the scientists who work to reveal their heritage. 3 hobbits

If anyone is interested I can recommend the book Kindred by Rebecca Wragg Sykes on Neanderthals. Best book I read last year, it used science to bring Neanderthal people to life. The stories were very moving. https://www.rebeccawraggsykes.com/kindred
