NewPipe is one of my favorite apps, it is probably better than Invidious or Piped in my opinion because you don't have to worry about a server being rate limited.
This repo provides an updated version of Bromite. You can put the link into Obtanium for easy updating (it's a similar process to updating a F-Droid app).
Obtanium (also available on IzzyOnDroid) can be used to updatr an app directly from a GitHub link, or many other sources. Great for apps like Bromite with an out-of-date F-Droid release.
Good ol' enshittification. I'm glad that I haven't used Google Search for a couple of years now, things serm to be getting even worse on it than other search engines. Fuck Google.
I love ViMusic, it's helped me find a lot of music over thr time I've used it. Its reccomendations are quite good, and I can just donate to the artist if I like the music instead of trusting my streaming service to underpay them.
I do too, but I still listen to stuff on ViMusic because it makes reccomendations based on what you listen to, and I think they're better than normal YouTube reccomendations. If I find a song I like, then I just download it and listen to it.
If a game I want to purchase has Denuvo, I just move on. It shows me that the game publisher doesn't care as much about their users as they do their own profit. Plus, I also could just play another game that I already have.
NewPipe has made my YouTube watching experience way better; it's a standalone app with features like ad blocking, subscriptions, and downloading.
F-Droid (particularly the Droid-ify client) is an open-source app store that generally provides quality apps.
Obtanium has helped me stay up to date with some of my more obscure apps, which are released only on Github. Obtanium can auto-update apps from a GitHub link or similar, which makes the process way easier.
Auxio is a pretty good music player, it's quite lightweight but it also looks good.
All of these are available on F-Droid, I find that many F-Droid apps provide a better or cleaner experience than Google Play apps.
Piped (and similar projects like NewPipe, Invidious, and FreeTube) scrape YouTube instead of using an API; so just like Nitter, they won't be affected by a paid API.
FOSS over piracy for sure. While the UI and/or functionality is not often as good as the proprietary option with FOSS apps, I feel a lot more comfortable using them because they are free and you can see what's going on with them better.
"If we make the sub less safe that will be better" -Rush Stockton (paraphrased)
my brother in christ safety IS advancement. the safer the sub the deeper it can go (kinda), which could allow room to introduce other things into the sub like a fancier cabin.
I'm beginning to suspect this Stockton man had a case of amooth brain...
I made one about a week ago as well, it's pretty nice. The communities seem to be getting a little richer with more users and I hope that communities like this one can become better than they were on Reddit!
For me it's probably the ability to sideload apps, among other things. Apps like NewPipe which would never make it to the Play Store are apps that I use every day, because they are just good apps. Also, I just like the UX of my Pixel compared to an iPhone - I couldn't live without things like a back button, and I sort of don't like the iOS UI.
