  • I take it that you're not a parent. So, if Snapchat is not able to know that someone is a sex offender, how is a parent to know? All you can do as a parent is talk to your kids about the dangers of these kind of apps. Sure, you could, and maybe should, forbid usage of these apps, but at the end of the day you're not looking over your kids shoulders 24/7.

    1. Make sure you can't see a clock at night. Not knowing how late it is will stop your mind from going over at least one detail, how much time you have left to sleep.
    2. Get a notebook next to your bed so you can write things down if something urgent comes up in your mind. If you're like me, changes are you'll never write down anything.
    3. Try to not think about anything for 10 seconds or better 10 breaths. No toughts whatsoever.
    4. If everything fails, have a book or e-reader ready, so you can relax while reading for a bit. Nothing with LCD screens though, they tend to wake you up even more.
  • You need a transmitter (oscillator + modulator) and an amplifier to get any reasonable range. Also (maybe even more important) some good antenna cable and an antenna tuned for your frequency. Without the right antenna you'll never get a decent range.

  • This would also work as an occasional alarm for me, because there are a lot of pirate radio stations in my part of the world. It would go like: static noise - sudden silence - guy shouting "Hello?! Test one, two!" - horrible music.

  • I agree, and it will probably break down anyway giving enough time. But it would be even better to take it out of the environment completely. The best would be not to even produce it for trivial stuff, so it doesn't get to pollute the environment.

  • From other times something like this came up:

    1. The rate of conversion is too low
    2. It will only eat plastic if other carbon sources aren't available
Probably more, this is from the top of my head. Also, this will still cause the plastic to eventually be converted into CO2 which is released in the atmosphere.
  • objectively

In their time, the Beatles also weren't considered very good by the non-fans. Also, subjectively, I don't think "love me do" is a great song. I don't think Taylor Swift writes really bad songs, I'm just not into the music/ singing style.

This is a great cover though. And, objectively, it shows her song writing is fine.

  • The dev could claim something like "prior art", or whatever the alternative is for software. Suppose I trademark the name "is-odd" for a company, should NPM now hand me the "is-odd" package name? This would surely break the internet in the same way is an this case.

  • I get that, but suppose you start a package on NPM named "bronk". Sometime later someone starts a company with that name. Should you just be forced to give up your package name, just because people suddenly associate the name with the company?

  • Not in my book. They asked him if he would rename his package, he replied sorry but I'm building a project with this name, and they replied that they were going to send lawyers to do takedowns if he would release his project. This would also rub me the wrong way. Also, the dev was already working on the package before the kik company ever came to NPM. Why would he have to give up on the name for his project?
