  • Here's an amazon link both without and with that feature being used, for comparison. (The tracking one was created in incognito mode, because I don't know what sort of things it might reveal about me otherwise)

What do the parts it left on do? The encoding is innocuous enough but I don't know what it's doing with ref or th. I usually sanitize links myself and I'd have brought that one down to either

, depending on how much I cared at the time. I kind of expected firefox to bring it down to the first version.

  • μBlock Origin works for me still (Firefox), but I had to remove my custom filter to remove Shorts from the Subscription page - seems like they can detect it if I have any YT-specific rules.

I've got FreeTube set up as a backup in case μBlock does ever fail - but its lack of tabs really make me not want to use it as my primary access yet. I think they could benefit a lot from creating a browser-based UI, kind of like what Plex has.

  • It's a strawman then. Nobody in this thread, including the person you originally replied to, claimed political violence is literally 100% exclusive to the right wing. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a single person anywhere who would make that claim in good faith.

And that's nothing new, either. Go to any place in any time period and you'll find some nonzero amount of political violence from any side of sufficient size. The major problem comes when a large proportion of one side starts thinking that political violence is okay. In the US today, that only describes the right.

  • I'm not super sure that applies here - they aren't being punished (legally) for getting the abortion, but for using the roads to get there. It seems to me conceptually similar to how European companies aren't allowed to sell drugs that are used for lethal injection to the US, even though those drugs are legal to sell in Europe: They aren't being punished for taking part in an execution that's legal where it happens, just for doing something that enables it in a place where it isn't legal. Same deal here.

I'm sure it's an unconstitutional/illegal law for some other reason, I just don't think this specific reason applies.

  • I had a vaguely similar idea a while ago and someone pointed out that this could incentivize spamming posts to as many communities as possible, even communities that are only questionably relevant or not relevant at all, to farm upvotes.

  • That's not even always the issue though - like recently Veritasium had an ancient video demonitized for mentioning that the subject of the video committed suicide, so now their most recent video is a censored re-upload of it. They include a new segment talking about the frustrating demonitization scheme Youtube has.

  • I'm not so sure about changing the terminology, but if we did, I think it should be a word that implies what the situation is: That the instance they pick isn't a walled garden in itself, but just an access point to the wider connected Lemmyverse. I think that was a common confusion point for most of us when we first heard of Lemmy.

So... "access point"? Or "gateway"? Or for a milder change, going from "instance" to "default instance" might get the point across.

  • I wasn't really raised into religion - my mom was a believer (Honestly not sure if she still is, I've picked up hints that may have changed), but she never once went to or brought me to church, we never talked about religion, etc. I think she got enough of that stuff when she was a kid.

I do like to go all-out on decorating for Christmas - just last year I spent a whole lot of time setting up and coding my own tree full of individually addressable RGB LEDs, in addition to all the other decorating on the interior of the place.

Despite that I still love saying "Happy Holidays" to anyone who gets bothered by that phrase. 😁

  • Whatever happened with that anyways? The last update I ever remember reading was Musk saying he'd show up at Zuckerberg's front door "tomorrow" demanding to fight.

I mean, I can guess what ended up happening (or not happening) - but was that it? No show, no reason, no follow-up? Is he even keeping up the pretense of being serious anymore?
