  • Could you possibly share the extension? Asking for a friend

  • I live in the middle of nowhere in Europe and all is true except the outside picture and the fact that there isn't anything to walk to (except if you want to take a 20km hike trough a forest to get to the city, and then do another 20km back)

  • Also not only that, but the ability to let me choose if I want to open a link in an app or not, happens countless times with stuff like GitHub automatically wanting to redirect to the app (which sucks)

  • Well of course, that's why I compared brave and not chrome, although the brave adblock sucks sometimes

But yeah, the firefox on android is good enough to set it as a default browser (never actually noticed that the Google discover page just opens in chrome and ignores your default browser before doing this, interesting how some apps do this too)

  • You wouldn't believe how many people are actually incompetent using a pc beyond using default values and browsing the web, for example in school one day I had to help classmates save their project documents to the school's server, because they didn't know how to browse the select folder dialogue box (or whatever it's called), and another dude in my class didn't know how to use the shortcut bar at the bottom of the window in PowerPoint so he literally scrolled through the ribbon for like 2 minutes before he managed to launch the presentation (and this guy is a straight A student to note), I also heard stories about coworkers which didn't know how to open a zip file or how to forward an email

The oversimplification of software is really problematic, since everything is made to be as straightforward as it can be people just go with it and then have a problem when they need to do something a different way

  • Yup, can say that firefox is quite a bit slower on android (but honestly it's still quite ok, unless it decides to loop loading the page, or it bugs out in another way, at least on my phone it's quite prone to breaking, for comparison brave is really a bit faster than Firefox

  • There's this dude on YouTube called oats Jenkins and makes better versions of things, he made a "traffic 2" video and in it he said something along the lines of "oh and you will need a permission ticket for a pickup added to your driving licence if you want one, so that only people who need a pickup truck can have one"

This is absolutely genius in my opinion, and I saw these big ass pickups spreading into europe, and like where I live (pretty small far away town of which there's a ton of in Europe) they would take up somewhere to 3/4 to the full damn road (I saw someone drive one and it really went like that those things are as big as a bus)

  • I'll try that, it's actually the opposite, it has an uefi switch in the bios since it's so old it probably was the standard to use legacy boot, guessing by the CPU (core 2 duo, idk what model though) it's probably a 2007/08 prebuilt (by the weird PSU)

It would make sense that it would be a problem with windows if it didn't have the uefi setting on, but it still doesn't explain the "Ubuntu success" message I got instead (and that was the case when the Linux drive was completely disconnected )

Will reply after I try it out, if it doesn't work I'll try the CMOS instead, if that doesn't work either then I guess I fucked up my computer beyond repair

  • Ah sorry then, I didn't quite get that (as said I'm not a native), just wanted to point out a fun coincidence since we learnt that word a few months back in English class

    Thanks for telling me

  • Sandwich

  • I read that as Portal 2, I really am obsessed with valve games ain't I

  • The Simpsons (that I watched like 3 years ago, yeah I don't watch TV shows that much) and clash of clans

I feel like this already happened iirc, with that EA mobile game that the Simpsons had

  • I'm a newbie, used a derivative of Ubuntu (xubuntu) since my computer is slow and old as fuck, it ended up somehow breaking my pc into only booting the drive with the Linux install on it and refuse to boot anything else not even live USBs (putting back in my windows drive just shows "success Ubuntu" in the top left corner)

If you think it's bios related please tell me, because I tried to mess with every damn setting related to this (I didn't try resetting the CMOS but I doubt it will do anything)

If anything it probably made me hate Ubuntu based distros in general (couldn't try anything else because the pc is fucked)

  • I didn't, I know it's a word in British English, I just wanted to say it's rare and I haven't seen anyone say it on the internet

Also yeah, I'm not a native language speaker

(And what do you mean by the nazi part? Why would you call anyone a nazi over something like a word?)

  • I am on the poorer side and living in one of the central European countries (yeah I'm a teen)

I only have a core 2 duo desktop with 3 GB of ram and a laptop with a i5 also with 3gb of ram, both only HDD machines

The desktop now runs Linux, but because it has components even Intel doesn't want to list on their website (the mobo) it runs it pretty poorly (also I bricked it somehow not run windows or any other usb install media, which is a big problem), the laptop runs windows 7 (it literally refuses to open the update utility I downloaded from MS's website, so that's that, two obsolete machines, that are absolutely horrendous to do anything with (not to mention my shitty 350$ phone is more powerful than both of them combined)

  • This is literally the first time I have ever seen someone say "mustn't" on the internet

  • That is only maintained due to the new operating system being a new shell placed on top of the countless older shells and some new small features that rely on the newest most fragile thing they added with the shell

I heard some call it the "painting over rust" method, and they're maintaining the most used and by some organisations the most relied on operating system in the world

  • Well first they support file uploads, second I feel like everyone I ever met from this instance was nice to everyone (sure that can be because it's smaller but it also has less controversies (i.e. what the dude I was replying to, the lemmy.world blocking us) due to the overall nature of this instance)

Went here for the file uploads, stayed for the community, that's what I can personally say

I'd suggest the switch for you
