  • Just heard about this poor guy. Capitalism wasn’t the reason this guy let himself out, it was shame from the article that outed him. Says it right in the news articles.

My heart goes out to Mr Copeland and his family. From the news accounts, it didn’t seem he himself was anti-LGBTQ, apart from his membership in a party that often is. He didn’t deserve that.

  • Pot is my mind eraser, so I have to be prepared to work twice as hard at staying focused. I find more creativity and fun in coding when I’m sober. There’s a time and place for inebriation, and for me that’s not in front of an IDE.

  • In terms of exploration, it’s very similar to No Man’s Sky, another boring space game. Every planet has similar terrain, similar plants and animals, similar goals, and similar structures. The differences are ambient light shades, colors and patterns on the plants and animals, and clutter in the artificial areas. The player can go scan life forms and blast bad guys. That’s about it.

But I don’t see how it could be any other way. How else does a studio scale up a galaxy such that every one of the 1000-odd planets is its own unique, interesting, engaging snowflake of a setting without spending hundreds of employee-years on each one?

Maybe AI will be the answer, but I’m not holding my breath.

    • Nick’s Burger from Nick’s Tavern in Lemont, IL. 1/2 lb of deliciousness, built for the industrial workers at the plants along the Des Plaines River.
    • Hothead Burger from Lucky Monk in South Barrington, IL. T’was the perfect combo of spicy and fresh cow. Sadly, it is no longer on the menu.

Yeah, you get two best burgers. Complaints to /dev/null.

  • My dogs, my awesome wife, and lots of video games. Some pot now and then, also, but there’s a limit to how much it helps.

Social anxiety around embarrassment and rejection tends to keep me away from family and friends, so I embarrass myself only around safe people.
